When will I get 22.5.4

Under "Product Update Announcements" 28 Sept it states :

" Once we have confirmed the effectiveness of the patch, we will make it available to all customers. We will post an update on the Norton Community Forums when we make the patch available to all customers."

I have not yet received the patch ?? Does that mean that the effectiveness of the patch in not yet confirmed ??

Hi Davec33,

The patch has been available since 30 Sept for all languages (the announcement you mention had been edited).  I would say by now, everyone should have received the update via LiveUpdate and the effectiveness of the patch is confirmed.

Please tell us your product (Norton Security ?) and your current version number. (Help/Support About from the main page of Norton).  Info on your operating system and default browser would also be helpful.

Did you run manual LiveUpdate in an attempt to receive the update.

Hi Yank,

I presently have Norton Security 22.5.2.15

Operating system is 64bit Windows 10 and browser is Firefox 41.0.2

I have tried several time restarting the computer and many times doing the manual Live Update.

I have 3 computers running Win 10 and none of them have updated, plus a 4th running Win 7 which updated weeks ago.

In the referenced article it states:

"One way to ensure a full restart is accomplished is to right click on the Start Button and choose Restart. This will do a complete shutdown and then a fresh restart of the operating system. "

I have tried that several times.

Have also tried today turning off the Fast Startup, then doing a shutdown and power on. Still no sign of this patch ??

If I didn't come to this forum I would have never known there even was a patch. As I said I have three Win 10 computers and none have updated. I wonder how many Norton users are out there with the same problem and don't even know it.

While I was waiting for (hopefully) some help I thought I would try the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool.

When I run it it states that it will install version 22.5.2.15 which I already have, so that's not much good !

I did not proceed with the remove/reinstall.

Hi Yank,

I used the one that your link points to. Why would the tool install 22.5.2.15 when 22.5.4 was released a month ago ? (At least that's what it says in the start screen for the tool - as I said, I did not proceed.)

A new version of NRnR.exe has just been released for English users.  Maybe it is worth trying again.

Yes, that did point to a new version of NRnR (at least the GUI was different) but it still says that it will install 22.5.2.15

What version do you get if you download directly from http://www.norton.com/latestns

If it were me...

  1. sign into Norton Management and see what version you can download from there  -  http://manage.norton.com
  2. Try the NRnR tool, run Live Update and see if you get 22.5.4
  3. Or, uninstall, run NRT and download from http://www.norton.com/latestns
  4. try this link  -  http://buy-download.norton.com/downloads/2015/22.5.4/NS/US/NS-ESD-22.5.4.24-EN.exe

Well I ran the NRnR tool and it did install 22.5.4.24 (despite the fact that it said it was going to install 22.5.2.15)

When I ran LiveUpdate it then installed a patch which required a restart - what was that for ?

So now I still have 2 more computers to fix.

I hope someone from Norton will comment on this. I am not happy having to spend so much time getting NS to update.

Hi, Davec33. The NRRT will always download the latest version, as will downloading a preactivated version from your Norton Account.

The patch was probably a compatiblity or toolbar patch of some kind.

The details are ususually posted in the appropriate forums' stickies.

The patch you got after installing 22.5.4.24 was for Norton Toolbar in Google Chrome I believe.

Hi SGFC,

Thanks for the info about the patch. I don't have Google Chrome which is why I didn't see anything change after the patch.

Also the application of the patch didn't go smoothly - it showed "applying patch", then after quite a long time it showed "error applying patch" and prompted a restart. After restart all seems OK now.

Yeah I don't have Chrome either. So I'm a little disappointed when nothing changes. Well nothing that affects my system. When I do install Chrome for testing purposes right away Norton offers to install the toolbar. I assume the Chrome version of Norton Toolbar is sitting somewhere on my PC waiting to install.
