The vault prompts you to log in with your account each time you open it. Reinstalling anti-virus, re-logging in to your account does not help. Help.
What browser are you using? Unless you are using IE, reinstalling your Norton Security will not have any affect on how the Norton Password Manager, NPM, behaves.
Chrome, Edge and Firefox each have their own browser extension for NPM.
When you have to sign in each time, are you asked for your email address and password before being asked for the Vault password?
I am having the same issue. Using IE and being prompted for email and password to log into Norton Account each time before I can have access to log in to my Vault. This only started happening the past couple of days. (I have used the password vault for years without issue and never ever have had to log into my Norton Account before log into my vault.
Tried with Firefox (62) this morning with same effect. Opening vault from icon in tool bar goes straight to Open Vault prompt bypassing signing into account. Open vault from web page log in box does request sign into account first. I pressed the 'Do Not Ask Me Again' button, seems at the moment to have solved issue. Had this same thing a year or two ago. IE has no problem (IE 11 on Windows 8.1), option to keep logged in Password Manager applies. Don't know if this is permanent or session only. Noticed this morning (UK) there was a NGC programme update come thru', don't know what for, only 300K +
I use Internet Explorer 11. Windows 10 1803. The first time you open the vault, it asks you to sign in to your account. Login (e-mail) is filled in automatically. The password must be entered manually. Then confirm by SMS.
This problem arose after updating to version 188.8.131.52.
This is the same problem that I also have started to have. I have been using Password Manager for years on IE 11. All of a sudden I am being prompted to log into my Norton Account before signing into PM. This is a new problem.
I am still on Version 184.108.40.206, unaware of new version. Subscribed to New Product Announcements but once again this has been issued under the original 220.127.116.11 announcement with the content unchanged with only the first few lines changes referring to 18.104.22.168 so no email update actually issued. It appears other subscribers not informed. Another issued release with problems!
When signing into account now does it give you the option "Do Not Ask Me Again"?
2nd boot of day had to sign into A/C to access boot, 3rd boot OK - straight to Vault log-in, this in IE 11. As yet have not updated - at the moment no MUI files for 22.214.171.124. Apparently, according to Norton this is only a version number change and contains no updates what-so-ever.!!. I have requested Norton issue a posting to this effect.
Just noticed Norton Toolbar & Password Manager Add-Ons in IE dated yesterday.
Should have kept my mouth shut. Happened on the last couple of boots - had probably 4 - 5 boots where vault opened OK without signing in. 1st boot of day OK, 2nd had to sign in. Still not updated to 126.96.36.199. I sign in thru' Norton GUI, not from IE so I assume nothing to do with IE.
Update - tried another boot - straight to Vault without need to sign in. Once into Vault, can close/open at will with no problems.Strange that both add-ons dated yesterday for IE Toolbar & PWM are timed after my shut down yesterday so must of come in this morning although surely would not affect logging in from GUI Password manage.r Very tedious having to sign into account before access to Vault.
I too have not updated to 188.8.131.52, and just rebooted and was asked to sign into my Norton Account before the vault in IE. Win 10 1803.
This was with the main Norton UI showing I was already logged into my Norton Account.
Looks as though this issue is something that Norton has done, the only thing I can see is the IE add-ins that have changed. Both Add-Ons version 2015.15.0.41 dated 5/10/2018 19:14. In the past have occasionally had to sign in to account out of the blue for no apparent reason, last time was over 12months ago (excluding re-installs). This needs looking at by Norton.
Today, done a total of 9 boots, 4 of those required signing into Account before able to open Vault so it is not consistent either way. I think being signed into Norton is separate to being signed into account for Vault.
Having to sign into account first now getting more frequent. Tried signing out of Norton completely from GUI, re-signed in but made no difference. Occasionally get straight thru' to vault - could this be a server problem - did have one instance when logging into account where had 'Sorry - server not available'. At least it is only required to sign into account once per session.
Apparently 184.108.40.206 was not for general release, only for new customers or people doing NR&R. Then today, received files for 220.127.116.11 ?, not yet updated this yet. Having to sign into account on each boot now to allow access to Vault, only problem had 'Sorry Server Not Available', 'Oops something went Wrong' and this afternoon had 'Communicating With Server' which went on for couple of minutes, cancelled & tried again & got in. Looks as this could possibly double authentication to access Vault ?. Seen nothing on this in the way of announcements, likewise Version 18.104.22.168. Please Norton, go back to old method of accessing Vault.
Downgraded to version 22.214.171.124 didn't help. Updated to the latest version 126.96.36.199 the problem is not gone. Request account sign-in to open the store appears every time at first launch after turning on the computer. After logging in to the account, the storage can be used until the first restart of the computer. Then, you are prompted to sign in to your account again... I will look for an alternative...
Now there is a Server Error... When will all the bugs be fixed?
Same here. Boot computer 2ce a day, is inconvenient but only takes a few seconds to log on to server - no idea why this happened - just out of the blue. Nothing had changed on computer since October Windows updates & install of 188.8.131.52 so must assume something changed in Norton or at their end. Day before first encountering issue, had to sign into Firefox account, that has still held.
blay. just received your latest posting just as I was in the throes of posting myself. Just rebooted, got in OK - based in UK. Did have a couple of failures 2 or three days ago but retries worked. I have let someone from Norton know but had no response. Have you reported to support?

Couple of failures today signing into account 'Server error We are working on servers at the moment' (or words to that effect). Try again works. Initial sin-in window appears, type in password, press OK & that's when error comes up - had this before since trouble began.
Searching thru' Forums few days ago did another 2 threads that may be same issue although were described differently, similar to 'have to sign in twice to vault'. Being daft, did not make note of thread titles.
Tried & wound back with system restore to a week prior to problem showing itself. Had one boot when went straight thru' to open vault then returned to issue. With previous version reinstalled had to sign-in, reinstalled 184.108.40.206, rebooted, good sign-in, reboot and next 3 have to sign-in again to now. Finger points at initial NGC product update, this appears on two occasions to trigger issue.
Norton needs to fix this ASAP!
I called tech support, and was told that this was intentional in case someone came across your unattended screen with the browser open, but that sounds ridiculous! First, if someone in my house or office is going to try to steal my passwords while I am away from the screen, I have much bigger worries than the Password Manager. Secondly, I always close browsers when leaving my desk, and the screen auto locks after 10 minutes. Finally, closing the browser forces a new login when reopening it.
So, to protect me from a walk-by data theft in my own house, I now have to be tortured with an entire 2-factor authentication process every time I want to use the vault!
But wait, it gets better. I haven't tried it, but the support tech said that the way to stop this idiotic behavior is to TURN OFF TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION ENTIRELY!!! How does that help anything? And it certainly does not lessen the risk of data theft!
The need to restore the ability to use "Trust this device" after the first login to your account, like it used to be.
Kengrush, What browser are you using. I use IE but sign in to vault thru' Norton GUI on each boot, home computer with only me here. Once signed in to a/c & vault can log in/log out of vault at will, only have to sign into account on new boot. Firefox, Chrome need to sign into vault each browser session but no need to sign into account. Have not set up 2 factor authentication so that apparently is not the issue. Anyway, can set Vault to close automatically after set time, set to ask for password on each login or could manually close if leaving desk, anyone would then require vault password which I assume one would not leave blazoned around somewhere for people to view. This all started after NGC Product update on 5th November pm whilst still on 220.127.116.11. Next morning had to sign-into a/c for Firefox Password Manager which has held, afternoon had to sign into account to access manager thru' GUI, there has to be some connection there. Couple days later had 18.104.22.168 arrive although issue originally with 22.214.171.124.
Did not see any note of this in the belated notice of 126.96.36.199 New Product Announcement.
Tried to be clever this morning. Logged out of main Norton Account (top right hand corner). Then went to log into vault. Entered account password, this then allowed me to open vault, it also signed into main account. Next two reboots, went straight to vault login & worked without need to sign in. Third reboot, back to request sign into account which continues. Quite often, first attempt pm (UK), comes up with error to the effect there is and issue and Norton are working on it - try again later. Just browsing community, there appears quite a number of PM issues on computers, phones, tablets etc. since early November. Are Norton looking at these issues? Only good point is that is not only me with the problem.
It seems developers do not care about the problems of users... That's too bad...

Norton ragent fixed this for me but problem was back after a couple of reboots by which time of course the session was finished..

During last 10 days, I had a couple of occasions where Norton appeared to be not responding, it recovered OK in that session. On next reboots, signed into Vault OK without need to sign into account, but this on both ocassions was a one-off, next boot had to sign into account - got to be some connection here, is Norton effectively signing out of account on shut down/boot. This all started with the fist part of latest update to current version coming through. See my previous post where signing completely out of main account then signing in straight away via Vault main sign in seems to solve issue for a couple of reboots. Doubt if Norton will fix, remember the issue with slow regeneration of 'History' that was acknowledged but is still with us. No change to computer prior to start of problem, started with this particular update so my thinking is that it is caused by Norton - why don't they fix?
Do you notice any comment by Norton themselves - they definitely have been informed.
I am relatively new to the forum but "Yank" a Norton Fighter that you may well know has just helped me with a problem with NTB that may have a link with this thread. My Google search on IE11 in Windows 10 was Freezing or crashing on first power up with Norton Toolbar enabled. ( sorry do not how to provide link to this post yet).
The relevance to this thread is that up to the fix "Yank" suggested and I implemented yesterday I had no problem opening my password vault with just my single vault password,( as long as I gave IE & NTB time to automatically log me into the Norton server cloud vault). How joyed I was after the fix to have IE and google instantly responding to every input, and Norton security seamlessly running in the back ground. All back to how it used to be, which it did all yesterday during multiple power up and shut downs of my PC .
However as you would have guest, today on all my power ups I have joined the infamous Multiple Log in Norton Vault Club or MLNVC if you like. Also if I try and open the vault as soon as the toolbar appears I also get an error message to the effect of re-select /open IE. Like most of the other posts once the vault has been opened, I only need my vault password to re-open it till the next time I power my PC up.
I hope the following helps in finding a link and/or fix for this problem too:
The fix that I did yesterday for my freezing or crashing was simply to change my IE home page to another search engine, so chose Yahoo and every thing worked like a dream. I then changed back to Google after multiple successful PC power ups and that now worked again for the rest of the day . "Yank" thinks there may have been a conflict between my old Google settings and Norton Tool Bar extension. I am just thankful to him for the fix suggestion that gave me a workable PC.

Same here on both IE11 and Edge, already tried the signing out and back in with vault and it was fine on first reboot but it's just reverted back to asking for login details again.
As seems standard with Norton now, no RESPONSE to issues like this. This is something they have done in the last upgrade hidden away and users not informed, only mention was Lifelock, would this involve the full update download for just one word. NORTON - please come clean on this.
Just come off chat about this issue and apparently it's a "feature" and has been added on purpose.
Not at all happy with this as I see it as pointless and a pain so will be looking for a new security provider once my sub runs out if not changed back, I didn't want or ask for this.
It's madness when you are already logged into Norton to have to login again just to be able to put your password manager password in to use it!
What next a third password?, a fourth? …………..
They do not mention this with the announcement of 188.8.131.52. Anyway, appeared to have been busy with the latest release which includes performance improvements, minor amendments and ALIGNMENT of Performance Icon, latter of which of course is a lot more important that this particular issue. I was always taught to listen to what your customers want and provide accordingly - no customers - no business. Be nice to see official of this by a NORTON posting in this thread.

Sunil_GA. Thanks for response. This is actually when opening vault from the GUI as well as IE, no access to Vault via either route except by logging onto account first as requested. Open GUI - On-line Safety - Password Manager which is my normal route. This commenced immediately after a small 'NGC Product update' received via auto Live Update on 5th November prior to the release of 184.108.40.206. Once logging into account and Vault can login/logout Vault at will during that session until computer reboot then have to go thru' full procedure again. Occurs both on desktop & Laptop. Couple of times had Norton 'Not responding', couple of days ago password into account rejected (second attempt definitely correct). Tried again minute or so late, went in OK. On each of these occasions, next two clean boots went straight to Vault Log-in with-out need for Account Login. As another posting states, Norton itself keeps you logged into your Norton Account. Still happening with 220.127.116.11.
Adding to the continuing fiasco this morning. Cold boot (first boot of the day) on 18.104.22.168. Opened IE, clicked on the vault icon in the toolbar, no joy!! Nothing happened, not even the presentation to log into my Norton account as had been taking place. Closed and reopened IE three more instances, tried getting to the vault, still no joy. Then, ran live update and received 7 updates, no restart required. Opened IE once again, still no joy. Not even presented the account login. Rebooted the computer, once fully booted I then opened IE again, clicked the vault icon in the toolbar as was presented with the error listed in the screenshot below.
I then restarted IE once more. Clicked on the vault icon in the toolbar. I was presented with the account login, opened my account, got the 2FA code, then could log into the vault. What a total mess.
Yes, this is a complete mess, I have exactly the same problem and it is becoming extremely annoying. I can access Password Manager on my mobile with a simple 4 figure PIN and yet on my PC I now have to first enter my Norton Account log in details before I can access the log in for Password Manager. Ridiculous!! Norton please fix, this is obviously of your doing and not an issue that your your subscribers should have to accept.
I log in thru' GUI. Get this same error quite often although more frequent since beginning of January, 2nd attempt straight away goes through OK, once 3rd attempt required on one occasion. This particular error has been showing on & off ever since this whole issue commenced. The fact that so many of us are having issues running different Windows variants must be significant. The no response when trying to log in has been there since 22.10 issued (happened same day as installed - July 2017), other people reported same issue at that time. Sometimes don't see it for perhaps a month then may happens 2 times a day. Only way to solve is a cold reboot. This has never been addressed by NORTON. Support at the time reckoned it was display adaptor, Windows said it was up-to-date, my then computer guru then run the card manufacturer's update & took it from version 13 to version 15 (Windows drivers not reliable) - problem still exists so that support reason incorrect.
FWIW!! It doesn't matter what day of the week or the time of day, a cold boot continues to not allow opening the vault unless signing into my account first. Never has before until the last set of updates before the product update to 22.214.171.124. A simple restart and the vault remains open as it always has.
Edited: Just did a shutdown on my laptop and got this nasty little error popup. NO PROGRAMS were open while shutting down. Still had to log into my account then vault after the reboot. I have noticed that NortonSecurity.exe is being submitted to Community Watch Feedback several times a day since the new product version install.
I just tried the trick that Xantia suggested. I changed my homepage to yahoo, logged into my account, then rebooted. Voila, could then just log into vault without the 2-step process of account & vault login. I haven't tried to change it back to google, but this tells me that there are issues between google and Norton. It burns me that Norton can't get their answers straight, telling some users that this is a security feature, purposely written into the software. Or this is a symptom of 2-factor authentication. All crap in my experience. 2-factor authentication is off on my account and if I can easily bypass the issue by using a different web homepage, then Norton doesn't have their heads screwed on straight. BTW, I am using IE11, windows 8.1. Norton, you need to fix this. Been dragging on too long.
Never seen that yet. Surely this infers a Norton problem. I normally boot in the morning, shut down & boot again pm, very rarely Restart but still have to sign into account before progressing to Vault login in that instance.I'm on latest version but on Windows 8.1 - January updates due but not issued yet so assume Windows can be crossed off as the culprit. At least, after 2 months since being reported, a response from Norton.
Vunderbread. I posted here in a previous post, that a simple restart after being logged into the vault won't cause a fresh account login scenario. Attempting to open the PWM directly from the Norton UI results in the same issue occurring. FWIW!! I changed my browser home page twice, rebooting each time since having to get into my account BEFORE a 2FA code to get to the vault login was never my issue, nothing changed. Please see my screenshots below. Ask . com and Yahoo. Personally, the hypothetical Google issue doesn't pan out when other homepage settings and a reboot to make those settings stick provide the same results. Every scenario has been tried on my end. This is a Norton product issue, period!!
As far as I am concerned, it is not an IE or Home Page issue, perhaps, if trying to log-in direct from IE does not work could point at IE but logging in from GUI would perhaps work - but No, have to sign into account first no matter which route I take. From what SoulAsylum says and, what I believe, some-where in the Shut Down process, Norton is logging users out of our password manager account which must have been instigated by Norton - why not come clean on this. Hence on a couple of errors during Norton, ie. not responding, passwords etc. giving error then next two cold boots go straight to Vault Login. Also one of my previous posts, logging completely out of main account, log into vault via sign-in & Vault sign-in also logs back into main account. Next two boots work properly - 3rd boot returns to requesting account sign-in. I'm at a loss.
Still having the same issue for a couple of months on 3 systems running windows 10 and ie11, 1 of which is bran new with a first time Norton installation.. . Logging in almost every time to my account is a hastle.. Not to mention the server error while trying to login.Tried all suggestions, resetting, restating... nothing helps. If I open my vault on my android phones all I need is stil 1 verification!!! It sure is a Norton issue.
Same here, no change I still have to login to my account to allow me to put my vault password in after every single reboot.
As for the homepage thing, my home page is Virgin Media so not that.
Not at all happy about this as it's a total hassle. Change it back!!
Update: Just got the January patch Tuesday updates from Microsoft for Windows 10. No change in the issue here on all 3 machines, all Windows 10 Pro x 64 / 1809. Mixture of Intel and AMD.
I have the same problem also. When I open Norton, I have to log out of my Norton account, then log back into my Norton account before Vault login can be accessed. If I try to open my password manager without logging out of my Norton Account first, I get the error message that has been posted by others on this thread. This happens on every boot up. Chrome and Edge work fine for me.
Identity Safe worked fine for years, problems started for me when changed to Password Manager. 'If it isn't broke - don't mend it' comes to mind here. At the time it was changed, there were quite a few threads with problems with the new Password Manager on various platforms, phones, tablets etc, this one seemed the one most relevant to me. If Norton could reinstate Identity Safe that was proven, that would be the way to go.
