64 bit Norton Security?

Soon I should be taking delivery of a new Windows 10 tablet PC to replace one that is fatally broken. Instead of 32 bits it will be 64 bits, something I know little about. I expect one of the first things I will want to do is to install Norton Security, for which I have a long subscription. Is there a 64 bit version? Or if not, does the 32 bit work OK on a 64 bit machine? If not, what are the ramifications, if any?

Re: 64 bit Norton Security?

Norton security solutions are compatible with 32 and 64 bit....

In July 2012, Symantec employee PieterV provided the following useful information regarding the 64bit issue:
We only create x64 binaries where required, for the remainder we use x86 binaries.
There is no benefit to using x64 binaries when x86 binaries work equally well. The only applications that benefit from x64 are applications with more than 3GB memory utilization requirements, and our apps do not fall in that category.
On x86 systems we must have x86 drivers, and on x64 systems we must have x64 drivers.
As such, we always create two sets of drivers, x86 and x64, and the installer carries both sets.

Please review > Have 64 bit computer. Norton shows up in start up list as 32 bit. Does this matter?

Re: 64 bit Norton Security?

Hello

On my 64 bit, I have noticed that the SDS Definitions will have a 64 bit version. I think that is the only 64 bit I see on a daily basis. There may be other background things that I am not aware of since I haven't noticed nor have I looked for differences.

Thanks.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view. Windows 10 Pro 64 bit Norton Core Security Plus 22.17.3.50 Core Firmware 282 I E 11 Chrome latest version.

Re: 64 bit Norton Security?

Thank you both, it is good to know one of the many tasks I will have when the new machine arrives is already resolved. I have another related question. It will be a dual boot tablet PC with both Windows 10 and Android Lollipop. Will I have to install Norton on both OS, or will the machine be protected by just one installation?

Re: 64 bit Norton Security?

That sounds like an interesting combination. Windows and Android. Can you give a link to a description of the specific laptop your are getting. I would like to check into this.

In answer to your question, you will have to install a copy of Norton Security on both operating systems. If in fact you do have an Android OS on this system, it will be Norton Mobile Security (Norton Security and Antivirus on the Google Play Store).

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: 64 bit Norton Security?

Hello

Cube iWork 10.1 (or other smaller / larger models).

I have not yet taken delivery so cannot give any info based on experience, I have read many reviews and there are video reviews / comparisons from TechTablets which are also on YouTube.

Although I will use it mainly as a small laptop it is not a laptop but a 2-in-1 10.1 tablet with optional docking keyboard. I have been using a very similar but lower spec 2-in-1 which has done all I wanted, which is not much (except the small device storage of 30 GB eMMc was becoming an issue ---- even so with a lot of nursing W10 was installed, and the Anniversary update too). The new tablet will have 64 GB and 4 GB Ram and is 64 bits). It is a 'cheap Chinese' machine, as was my previous one which I guess would not appeal to power users. There are other similar tablets available, eg. the Chewi range .

The review linked to below is informative but very 'glowing' which would make me cautious. On the other hand TechTablets is a site which specialises in reviews / discussion of various  Chinese tablets sold in the west. It's reviews and forum posts are very much 'warts and all'. If you think you might be interested in a tablet from China I recommend TechTablets.

I did not choose the Cube because it has both Windows (10) and Android (Lollipop) installed but as I use both it was an added attraction. You can get a Windows only version. A major factor for me was the keyboard, highly praised on YouTube. It is more expnsive than might be expected, but you can get many cheaper alternatives for it though I suppose they do not 'dock' with the tablet.

These tablets are sold on Amazon and Ebay or by Chinese specialists Banggood and GearBest (USA).

Re: 64 bit Norton Security?

Interesting device.

As I noted above, you will be installing Norton Security on the Win 10 OS, and Norton Security and Antivirus on the Android OS.

This will count as 2 installations against your subscription.
