About opening my vault

For some reason when I go to open my vault, one machine has my [still] local vault as the default but for some reason on my other machine the default is the online vault and I have to change it to open the local vault.

Why?

Thanks,
Dave

Re: About opening my vault

Well since I'm having this problem with my local vault I guess I'm out of luck getting support for it, but if anyone else notices the same there are two options.

  1. You can sign out of your account which then leaves the local vault the default.  Your machine won't show it's status with Norton Management while not signed in to your account though.
  2. Put up with it.  You will have to click Open local vault each time but your machine will show it's status in Norton Management.

I've chose option #1 as that's less painful for me.

Cheers!

I should have noted that I do have both a local vault and an online vault.

Re: About opening my vault

I am so sick of having to sign into my account every time the computer shuts down and then log onto my vault to unlock it.  Now for the last week or so I get the 'sign in' to open a "NEW' vault. I know what happens when I do that, I loose 143 passwords that are in my vault. After a few moments of ignoring it, I see the ' log in password ' to open vault.  Pretty buggy for a new system

Re: About opening my vault

Krusty13, I have both Local and Online Vaults on my NSBU in stall on Win 7 (64 bit) - so my system is similar to yours.

Here is what I get:

If I sign out of ID safe (Vault is open > Close Vault) while in my Local Vault, when I then go back to Vault is closed, Local is the default.

If I sign out of ID Safe wile in my Online Vault, my default becomes Online Vault upon trying to sign back in.

Regardless of if I am in Local or Online Vault, my Norton Management shows two green check marks. I did not change being signed into my Norton Account (which should not have any influence on the Local Vault as that is tied to windows user account.  Have you tried it on a different windows user account?

<EDIT>  Come to think of it, I do not have a Local Vault on any user other than the one I used to set it up on.  I have the Online vault available, but not the Local on another windows user on this system.  Any idea if I can get a Local on more than one user when I have both?  I seem to remember trying to get a Local on a second user in the past and failed.

Re: About opening my vault

Hi Yank,

This is a non issue for me now since reinstalling after the slow shutdown patch.  Interesting that a 3 month old thread would resurface.

I know it is not recommended to use an Admin' account all the time but I do.  No other accounts so I can't comment on your edit, sorry.

This rather annoying behaviour has returned now that I have linked my account to the online vault.  If I sign out of my local vault, next time I go to open the vault the first choice is local, same with the online vault.  However, if I restart my machines the default is the online vault again.

I would hardly think I'm going to receive help from Symantec on this because I still have and want a local vault so my only option now is to log off from my account, which as mentioned before, leaves me also logged out of Norton management.  So be it!

Re: About opening my vault

Actually, I may be wrong.  I've just logged into Norton Management and it shows that both of my machines are online even though I'm not signed in on the NSwB GUI.  If that's the case then I have no problem at all.
