ads popping up

I purchased the Norton standard security today, after being constantly informed my laptop contains a virus, this 'virus' has  led to the popping up of ads on many websites  I wanted to visit. I bought this virus protection in  hoping it would change. But it hasn't. Does this product seriously do nothing to block ads, disappointing. I still can't visit many websites, as when the website  loads up an ad pops up and it crashes the website, I try to recover the web page but the same thing happens again and again. Is they any alternate. My ads need blocking and to stay that way, so I can visit any website I like without any problems.

Help me in any way possible it will be much appreciated. Thanks have a nice day.

Re: ads popping up

Hello Steven Mastin 01

To get the best performance out of your Norton Security, it should be installed on a clean computer. Also, your previous security program needs to be thoroughly removed using the removal tool from the previous vendor.

I would suggest a visit to a free malware removal site. Please pick 1 of these and stick  with them until they say your computer is clean. Your Norton Security will still be useful once  your computer is clean.

Please see this link for an up to date description of these sites plus the addition of a newly listed site formed by one of our successful malware remover users who unfortunately has passed away. That site is still being run by a good expert who happens to be one of the other Gurus.  The new site is listed first in this link.

Thanks.

Re: ads popping up

To add to what floplot has said, you may have installed a PUP or PUA (Potentially Unwanted Program or Potentially Unwanted Application) which are not always detected by Norton as some people actually want the 'features' these PUP/PUAs provide.

I also recommend visiting one of the free malware removal sites linked in Flo's post.

Thanks.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.
