Allowed program blocked by SmartFirewall
Issue that arose this morning. We have a machine (Windows 10) running a program called Alpha 5. Other computers on our network are able to connect to the database using a simple A5 client. We have used this program for years. We used it yesterday with no issues. However, this morning, nobody is able to connect. I can remote into the machine from my computer using RAdmin. But anyone attempting to connect with the A5 client program is not permitted. There have been no Windows updates run for over a week. Norton is the only security program running on this machine.
After double-checking the network, the router, the switch, etc we tried the last option we could think of. We went into Norton Security and disabled the Smart Firewall. The other computers were then able to connect and run with no issues. We turned Smart Firewall back on and back to no connections.
Under Program Control Alpha 5 is Allowed with bi-directional traffic. Everything is allowed/permitted for Alpha 5.
Right now we have Smart Firewall turned off so that our employees can access to program. I am lost as to what might have changed overnight. I tried removing the Alpha 5 from the Program Control and re-adding it. No difference.
Any suggestions on how I should proceed? I obviously want the firewall up and running but absolutely need the A5 client access connections for the employees.
Any and all help/suggestions are very much appreciated. Firewalls and networks are not my specialty so if you can help please talk to me like I'm 5 years old :)
