allowing a safe site

When I try to log into a site I know is safe and secure, I get a warning that it is not safe.  How can I add this site to safe sites so I don't get the error message every time I go in.

Guess, you can try > https://submit.symantec.com/false_positive/.

Um, care to share name of website?

This is not a wise move, as the site may in fact have gotten infected since you last visited. Best to have the site checked by the professionals.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: allowing a safe site

I spoke to the IT people at my job where this site comes from today.  It is safe.

Re: allowing a safe site

If I click on "continue to site" which I always do, I get in "sometimes" but not always.  My IT department said to reach out to Norton support.

Re: allowing a safe site

Virus Total also shows the site as safe   https://www.virustotal.com/gui/url/6727e06f19dc56fd89a6aa0c49c631e15d833f7cb9b85008508b44837650db1e/detection

Just white listing the site locally is a bad idea in case it does actually get infected. The best move is to report the false positive using the link in bjm_'s first post. The instructions are fairly straight forward.   https://submit.symantec.com/false_positive/

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: allowing a safe site

I went through the instructions and got stuck half way. Not straightforward to  me.  Need to find another way or another antivirus. Norton is super expensive anyway, better and cheaper options listed on consumer reports.  But, thanks for the advice all.

Do I need to reach out to Norton or does anyone from Norton also monitor this site?

Hello Tim Kirby

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum.

I will submit this thread to the  Safe Web Team. Since   you don't own the site, you can't get the site verified. I will ask them to manually re-evaluate the site.

Please stay tuned to this thread for a response from the Safe Webb Team on Thursday night after midnight EDT.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks

I understand you have to maintain security; however, I have no choice but to switch to a new antivirus.  I am the only one in my office who uses Norton and the only one who can not work from home.  I have been using Norton for over 10 years.

Safe Web browser extension is prompting page block.  So, up-to-you whether to run Safe Web browser extension...since, you need to work from home.

I am getting confused now.  I don't know what Safe Web browser extension is.  I thought I had no choices here. If I do, I will take the risk.  Not working from home is not an option.  I will get another antivirus before I switch jobs.

Um, what web browser do you use for work?

After you install Norton, you are prompted to add the Norton browser extensions to your web browsers. Norton adds the extensions to Google Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge browsers.

You must enable the Norton browser extensions to easily access all the browser-specific features of Norton Password Manager. The Norton browser extensions include:

Norton Safe Web

A secure search experience that helps you to surf, search, and shop safely online. It analyzes websites that you visit and detects if there are any viruses, spyware, malware, or other threats.

Re: allowing a safe site

Holy sh*t.  I was using Firefox.  Then, I tried Chrome, got the same error messages. But, then I tried Edge and it seems to be working. I will play with it a bit, but never thought of switching browsers.  Will let you  know how it goes.  Thanks.  Seems crazy that Norton would allow access to a site through one browser but not others.

Then use Edge (since appears you have not installed Safe Web in Edge or disable Safe Web in your preferred browser when you need to work.

Norton Safe Web detections are global.  Norton Safe Web does not offer local whitelist.

Since, your preferred browser is Firefox.
Try, for example Bitdefender TrafficLight extension in lieu of (or with) Norton Safe Web extension.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/trafficlight/

or for example Emsisoft Browser Security
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/emsisoft-browser-security/

and when you're working > disable Norton Safe Web extension.

Bitdefender TrafficLight and Emsisoft Browser Security extensions offer local whitelist.

Or, you can try Norton Isolation Mode > may not be workable for you since Isolation Mode disables active links.
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/norton-identity-safe/current/solutions/v127606124

You would need to "Continue" and Sign In and then see to what extent your work portal is (is not) functioning.

Good Luck

Re: allowing a safe site

My IT departments response to Norton:

This is a False Positive and the Antivirus and Firewall producers are very tolerant (and happy to have) with this kind of issues because these are showing you the high "quality" of their products.

Normally a Antivirus and Firewall must be very silent and you don't need to see anything from that activity.

If your Firewall stops you working that mean the settings are set to "very aggressive" and will need to be correctly setup.

Unfortunately this is not in my attributions as the Firewall is not a ERA product and I cannot set that for you.

Please go back to Norton and force them to set you an exception in your personal Firewall for that site.

Please tell them that this is your business and they are stopping you to make money - you need to be very decided and even menace them.

I have a workaround - please try this if you have no result from you session with Norton:

By default, URL Monitoring is turned on. Keep URL Monitoring turned on to ensure protection against malicious websites.

  1. Start Norton.

If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

  2. In the Norton main window, click Advanced or Settings.

  3. On the left pane, click Firewall, and make sure the Vulnerability Protection switch on.

  4. In the Vulnerability Protection row, click the settings icon.

  5. In the Vulnerability Protection window, click the URL Monitoring tab.

  6. Click the On option, if it is turned off.

You can turn it off each time you want to work in Dynamics and then turn it on again.

Hi Tim Kirby,

Um, Norton Safe Web browser extension is calling Norton Safe Web page block <here>.
Norton Safe Web browser extension works w/wo a resident Norton security product.

Umm, yes, maybe, I have no idea what that is, but can try.  Just a pain if I have to go in and out to turn off and on depending on what I am doing.
