Re: The annoying message still appear about backgrounddownload.exe

Have you clicked on OK with the Allow Always choice in the options?

This is not a malware detection. It is a firewall notice that the file/process is trying to access the internet. The information given shows it is a new file (22 days), so even if you saw this a month ago, if the Visual Studio got an update to that file, it is again a new file that Norton is just confirming you want to allow to access the internet.

Norton shows these messages in case it is some malware trying to 'phone home' with your personal information.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

I tried to press allow many times but this file located in the "temp" folder and always change subfolder location like that

temp/dg3saa

temp/fklhe24

So this message never end

Hello coolday70. I read this article earlier that may be related although somewhat dated. Just for the sake of asking, are you using any version of Python on the affected system? Knowing this is an issue caused by VS, Microsoft has a discussion for the problem here. Have you reset your Norton Firewall and allowed it to see the activity again?

Cheers

Firewall settings? By default?

Executive file from temp dir runs VS background? Turns out that new suspicious file run Trusted software - firewall works correctly. Just change firewall settings (application control).

Coolday. In your VS settings, disable the following and reboot. Tell us if the behavior continues.

Visual Studio, Tools->Options->Environment->Product Updates->Automatically download updates.

Re: The annoying message still appear about backgrounddownload.exe

1) I use VS 2019 with auto update and my Norton firewall set on agressive app control. W10 1903. I do not feel inconvenience. But i don't use docker.

2) Background has trusted rep (firewall allows trusted apps) and there is only one (probably) reasons why norton reacts - background was run by untrusted file (trusted program inherit bad rep from untrusted file).

Problem not solved, just something else has changed. Background provides VS updates, but in usual conditions Norton allow his job (autu updates or not - not important!)

Re: The annoying message still appear about backgrounddownload.exe

coolday70. Since we just had Microsoft patch Tuesday, check your windows update history for updates to Visual Studio. Microsoft has a habit of re-enabling system settings when updates are installed. See if the setting for VS to automatically download updates has been re-enabled. Disable again if that is the case.

Re: The annoying message still appear about backgrounddownload.exe

coolday. Since the file in question resides on your system submit it to Symantec for a re-analysis. You can do so following this link. Hopefully they can adjust the definitions that are setting this off for you. Let us know how that goes.

Re: The annoying message still appear about backgrounddownload.exe

Wondering if your VS install is looking for resources from an outside website, such as maybe One Drive and its pulling it into your "project" folder as an update. Temporarily move or change your project folder location and see if things change.
