Anti-Exploit/Anti-Ransomware and Norton Security

I am currently running Norton Security and was wondering if there was any merit to installing a separate Anti-Exploit and Anti Ransomware program.  Not really interested in having yet another real time program eating up cpu cycles or slowing down startup.

As always thanks for the response group.

That depends on your risk factor.  No one anti-virus can protect you from all risks 100% of the time so some choose to use additional tools.  Norton offers some anti-exploit protection built in but it isn't at the same standard as a stand-alone tool like HitmanPro.Alert or MalwareBytes Anti-Exploit.  Norton will also protect from some ransomware but as I've mentioned, it cannot protect against all forms all of the time.

As far as ransomware goes, perhaps your safest option is to have backups on another drive of all important files kept disconnected from your machine, and you would also benefit from having recent images of your drive to restore from as well.

I'm sure others will add their advice here too.

Danjo62. MalwareBytes Anti Exploit is worth using, as it will work alongside Norton.

I've used the free version, and had no issues.

As Krusty says, HitMan Pro is also a good option.

Nowadays, a layered approach is not a bad thing, as long as you don't have 2 antivirus programs running in real time.

That's a no-no.

Thanks for the quick response,  Norton has been protecting my PC's for 15 years now without any compromises, so I think I may have just developed an unhealthy obsession with cybersecurity.  Great advice,  I faithfully backup to multiple media/sources both onsite and off.  Regular drive images as well.

Thanks again, I'll stop losing sleep over this.

You're welcome. Input from others is always good as this forum is a user to user forum, and everyone will have their own favourite piece of software.

Regarding anti ransomware, you can always check these recommendations out, too.

BitDefender is particularly good.
