Antispam not working correctly

I set up anti-spam in NS and have added numerous addresses and sites to the list yet email from those addresses and sites to not go into the spam folder. Why not? I tried switching to Kaspersky for a short period of time and that's one of the things they had that worked wonderfully. Many other things were problems but that's not needed to discuss here...

Re: Antispam not working correctly

Are you seeing 'Suspected Spam' or something similar added to the subject line of emails from those senders?

You can set up a filter in your email client to move those emails to your spam folder.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

I don't see anything being added to the subject line. As far as I can tell Norton doesn't identify any of my incoming mail is Spam, the only male that ends up in the Junk Mail folder is mail that I sent there by clicking "This Is Spam".

Re: Antispam not working correctly

I've only had one suspected spam message come through to my inbox, and it was a false notification. The only thing I saw was the Suspected Spam added to the subject line.

I see no setting in Norton Security to automatically move the flagged emails to a spam/Junk folder. As I suggested, you should set up a filter in your email client to move tagged emails.

Setting up a filter is not a problem but since Norton isn't isn't adding anything to the message line a filter will do any good.

Forgive me for asking the obvious, but I cannot see your system.

You did add the email addresses to the Blocked List under Anti Spam in Settings?

Did you add a specific email address or a domain?

I've added both domains and specific email addresses to the block list and mail from both types still don't get marked as spam!

Re: Antispam not working correctly

I find that NS is sending emails I flag as "This is Spam" to the Blocked List.  What is added to this list is the spam mail's email address only.  After the email address is added to the Blocked List I do not see anymore spam from this specific email address.  In this case, if another spam email from the blocked email id is sent to my email ID, it is blocked. This is what I would expect from a basic spam blocker.  UNFORTUNATELY, these "spamers" aren't stupid.  I will continue to get spam from a company with the same NAME but with a totally different email ID.  I flag it as "This is Spam" and it gets logged into the Blocked List but it doesn't stop the spam from the vendor.  Here is an example: "AutoPriceFinder <AutoPriceFinder@vWn67Oj.geotechproducts.com>" .   If I flag this email as spam, the email ID ("AutoPriceFinder@vWn67Oj.geotechproducts.com") is logged in the Blocked List and any future emails from this ID are blocked.  However, I still get emails from "AutoPriceFinder" but with different email IDs. For example: AutoPriceFinder <AutoPriceFinder@LL4KVfb.acehatrick.com>.  Apparently NS only looks at the email ID.  If it is not in the Blocked List, it will pass it on to my email inbox.  A more robust spam blocker (that I would expect from Norton) would store the name AND the email ID and block anything with either the blocked name OR blocked email ID.

Re: Antispam not working correctly

Running Outlook 2007 here and have noticed the same thing.. I've blocked a few spammer's domains yet emails from that domain still get through untouched. Messages with the same subject but a different sender (a lot of chinese spam for example) also get through. Perhaps scanning more fields or allowing selectable fields to scan is needed in the antispam section of the app.

Re: Antispam not working correctly

Hello

I let the spam detector from my ISP take care of the Spam even though I use Office 2013. I just have to check the Spam Detector to make sure that none of my regular email isn't in the Spam Detector. The few spam emails that do get through, I just delete them without opening them....

That's when I do also but it's something that Norton Security is supposed to do in doesn't! I had tried Kaspersky Pure prior to making the move to NS and while it had other problems it's anti-spam function worked flawlessly! Norton should look to them to see how a good antispam system operates.

Hello

Did you remove Kaspersky from your computer using their removal tool before you installed your Norton product?

Yes I did and actually reverted back to NIS 2012 first so I could keep my local vault!
