Ask Toolbar?

First let me state that i am simply beyond impressed with Norton's performance recently. I have not used it in a few years, and many changes have taken place since then. Now onto the important part, i am not a casual user, i have been testing Norton in Vmware against many samples a day, not just running Static tests but Dynamic as well, and have yet to infect the test system "this is where the part of being impressed came in".. Download/File Insight are very responsive, AutoProtect picks up the slack of those two, rarely allowing Sonar to shine. IPS has had its share of blocking's as well...   All of this said, i still have one question...  Why "ASK" toolbar? This product "Norton Security" is almost completely perfect with the exception of the ask toolbar. No one should be using toolbars in this day and age, let alone "Ask". Many products can manage to place their site rating in with the webfilter, so why not here. Integrate your Vault into a button for all browsers.  I will continue to use your product, but highly suggest thinking of rebranding your Vault and site ratings with another method altogether and dropping that ridiculously old toolbar and affiliation with Ask.

Re: Ask Toolbar?

Ask and the Norton Toolbar are two separate things.  Ask is only associated with Norton Safe Search, a search engine that can be set to exclude any sites that are known by Symantec to be dangerous from search results.  Norton Safe Search can be turned off and Norton users can chose any search engine they prefer.  The Norton Toolbar also includes Norton Safe Web, which shows site safety ratings in Google, Bing, and Yahoo search results, and Identity Safe, neither of which has any connection to Ask.  The Norton Toolbar and its components are all optional and can be turned off.

Re: Ask Toolbar?

Hello LucentWarrior

The Norton Toolbar for Firefox is in the process of being rebuilt including the vault. The latest plans are to have 1 that will be able to be used with Firefox, Chrome, IE 11 and Edge. We (Gurus) don't know yet what it will look like, but it is possible I suppose that it could be something like you mention in your post in this thread.

If you look at the top of the post that you made in that huge thread you posted in, you will see some Announcements about the progress of the Toolbar for Firefox. There are some updates at the beginning of that thread. I know it's a humongous thread to read thru.

Thanks.

Re: Ask Toolbar?

Thank you for the responses and clarifying. It was an assumption that since Ask was associated that it was a rebranded version of the toolbar. It would be good to see the toolbar replaced as i mentioned above, most users world wide have a disdain against toolbars from past reflections and rightfully so. Other then this, as i stated above as well, im thoroughly impressed with the transition Norton has gone through since the last time i gave it a spin. It is now placed on both machines in this household, including the Host of my Testing machine. I will dive deeper into that long read of a thread.

I do want to mention i am on the latest version of Chrome right now, of which i hid both the new "non-functional" buttons, and ended up disabling the tools bar "just is not right on Chrome period" and using lastpass as a password manager because half of the time i could not get the vault/password manager to auto log correctly. The new buttons, if they were to become functional and do away with the toolbar altogether would be awesome, for both firefox and chrome.

Re: Ask Toolbar?

The Norton Safe Web toolbar also includes an Ask.com search box. The search box does not share code with the Ask toolbar; instead the box redirects queries to the Ask search engine.

Re: Ask Toolbar?

Indeed...

many changes have taken place since then...

This study contains latest major changes that have taken place in the hidden APN Affiliate Program. Downloadable setup files (e.g., .MSI installer, common exe) > MindSpark, Conduit, Search App by Ask and more > two steps to get d bar installed: mark then install when it comes to IAC & MyWay Search (aka, The myWebSearch Toolbar, MyWay Speedbar, MyWay Education Guide, MyWay Searchbar, MyAllSearch Search Assistant, MyWay Search Assistant or MyWeb Searchbar) any more? Wait n' see.

IAC is increasing its “toolbar” business, which places various clickable tools on the browsers of Internet users, and enables IAC to collect a fee each time the toolbar is used.

So far, televisionfanatic com, one of the 4 promoted sites, is clean:

Please be noted that, televisionfanatic was engaged in the distribution of malware, according to hpHosts (ver. 08/25/2015)

NPE vs. televisionfanatic

Norton Identity Safe vs. televisionfanatic:

Avoid IAC & MyWay adware/ crap for good.

And, to rid of televisionfanatic and/or other clones, one should first check out browser's Add-ons Manager instead, erase the add-on there. Remember to examine d Home Page.
