Backup completed with errors (X files could not be backed up)

I just started using NOBU, and on both of my computers I get the same results from my daily backups:  Backup completed with errors (X files could not be backed up).  The number X is hundreds.

There is no information on what files are not backed up.  I also have read somewhere that one needs to be careful to have all applications closed--like Word or Excel, and all my applications are closed.

Is there anyway to determine what files are not being backed up or just get them all backed up?  At this point I have been warned about an incomplete backup--which is unsettling--but have no idea what to do about it.

Re: Backup completed with errors (X files could not be backed up)

Two updates:

1.  The support team called me on this which was very much appreciated.  Kudos to Norton for the live response!

2.  We traced the issue to a subset of OneDrive (aka SkyDrive) files.  OneDrive now lets you keep a copy of a file either:

  • On local drive + a copy on OneDrive ("Available Offline") OR
  • On  OneDrive only ("Online-only").

The issue was with the files kept as "Online-only."  (You can see that on OneDrive under the "Availability" parameter.)

We agreed that NOBU should not even attempt to back up such "Online-only"  files, and the support specialist said he'd let the developers know--that they had not seen this before.  In the meantime, since all files on OneDrive are by definition backed up [to OneDrive], I am going to try to exclude them from the backup altogether.

By the way, in writing the exclusion rules, this link helped me get the syntax right:

Oh, and finding the log file was a key step in diagnosising the issue.  The log file is not accessible from the NOBU GUI.  You need to go into your directory and find it.  Here is the location:

C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Norton Online Backup
