Backup computer to WD MyCloud NAS using Norton Security

I have Norton Security with Backup (2015) in my laptop running Windows 8.1. I am trying to have it save the backup to my NAS (WD MyCloud), but when I go to set it up, in the "Where to Save it" section, it doesn't come up as an option.

Can I just set up my computer to back itself up during shutdown and shut off the notification from Norton Security? Is it even possible to do so?

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have requested this thread be moved to Backup for better exposure.

Re: Backup computer to WD MyCloud NAS using Norton Security

Hi crashcartjockey.

Welcome to the Norton Community Forums.

Re using your NAS drive:-

  1. Can you tell us exactly how your computer is connected to the NAS drive?  Is if a WiFi link locally, wired or is it seen as being on the internet?
  2. When you open Windows explorer can you see the NAS drive as available and are you able to copy files to it?
  3. When looking at the "Where" tab.  You say that you do not see the option of using your NAS drive.  Have you clicked on the little box with a curved arrow in it to the right of the words "Where do you want to store your backup files?"?  Clicking on that should get Norton to do a re-scan to check for all options.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean.

  1. Norton has a number of options for when it backs up but none are to run at shutdown.  However if you want to do that, you could set your backup to run manually and then when you set it off click on the box to shut down when finished.
  2. As for shutting off the notification do you mean the warning that your computer is not backed up?  If so you can just go to settings and under "Quick Controls" un-check the "Backup" option.  Then NSBU will run just as NS and not worry about backup at all.

I hope that helped, which is why I have checked the "I believe this comment solves this Forum Thread" but if it does not then please feel free to come back and I or others will try again.

All the best.

It won't work trying to use a UNC path.  Map the NAS or a folder on it to give it a local drive letter and it will work.
