Backup fails to include local copies of cloud storage folders

I'm trying to include local copies of the OneDrive folder under the user's profile (e.g., C:\users\<username>\onedrive). In the backup set, I've included the C:\ drive as a source in addition to "My Documents", however this folder is not included when I go to preview the backup.

The only way to get this folder included in the backup is to manually add it as an Inclusion.  However, then I have to manually add additional files as Exclusions, because I don't want to have larger video files (.MOD, .mp4, mpa, etc) included in the backup.  That's not practical, because then I have to routinely go through multiple user accounts looking to exclude these types of files.

I should be able to just check the C: drive as a source, and allow Norton to backup local copies based on the file type settings/associations. I've seen similar threads with this issue for Google Drive, but no solution. Why is Norton intentionally excluding these folders, and will the developers fix this.

That would be because there are no local copies of the file other than the original files you have on your system. When you look at the OneDrive folder, it is just links to the online storage location.

Re: Backup fails to include local copies of cloud storage folders

That used to be the way OneDrive worked, but it changed with Windows 10 in 2015. Files are stored both locally and online now, but you have the option to go back to the old method if you're running out of space locally.

So for example, if you make a change to a file while working offline, when your system comes back online, it will resync with OneDrive.

"Files you save to OneDrive are available online at OneDrive.com and offline on your PC. That means you can use them anytime, even when you're not connected to the Internet. When you reconnect, OneDrive updates the online versions with changes you made offline."

Sorry I missed that info on OneDrive.

The choice of file extension might be a good suggestion for the Product Suggestions board https://community.norton.com/forums/product-suggestions
