Beware of error5773.54ht83460772.b5aa701fc2495c8.win

Some user reported that his or her Edge browser had been redirected to this TOTALLY MISLEADING error5773.54ht83460772.b5aa701fc2495c8.win LP. Number... 1-888-XXX-XXXX

So far, it's clean@ https://www.virustotal.com/en/url/547b0826c9b9e7a36b32c4fd51be2f034caaac...

Hello

So far, Norton does not support the Edge Browser.

Thanks.

That screenshot definitely looks like a Firefox browser to me, which is also what the fake BSOD is reporting it to be.  Even if it were Edge, I don't think Norton support would be an issue.

Hello

If you zoom up the screenshot to 150 % with my bad eyes, it says the browser used is Firefox. it gives an IP address and it also gives a telephone number to call. I wouldn't put that screenshot up since it leads to more spam calls. It says to call Microsoft Technical Support. I believe that is the telephone number that I could see.

Yes, it is Firefox (as I mentioned, you can tell by the appearance of the address bar) and it looks like the browser was redirected to a website that displays the fake Windows blue screen with a fake Microsoft phone number.  It's a phishing attempt.

So far, Norton does not support the Edge Browser.

An off-topic update: VipreEdgeProtection (VIPRE Internet Security Beta 2017)...

Hello

Please do NOT try the above fix since it is based on a Beta program plus it is dangerous to make registry deletions or changes unless backed up and under the supervision of a malware removal expert who has been properly trained.. A properly trained expert will work on a 1 to 1 basis and not in an open Forum like this one. There is no mention of backing up the Registry plus Norton does NOT support the EDGE Browser.

Thanks.

There isn't actually anything to fix since this was just a browser redirect to a fake web page, presumably attempting to scare the user into paying for a phony tech support service.  It looks to me more like 20750065 is just using a screenshot of the registry to indicate that Vipre Internet Security 2017 has a component called Edge Protection (although given that there is no clear accompanying explanation for the screenshot, I could be wrong).  Again, this topic has nothing to do with the Microsoft Edge Browser.  The user appears to have been browsing with Firefox.  I would point out that Firefox is supported by Norton, and yet the phishing page was not blocked.  The explanation, of course, may be that nowhere in this thread does it say that the user is running Norton.  So this whole topic is sort of off the rails.

@SendOfJive: I am not an experienced coder... then I can't fully understand that registry setting created by VIS 2017.

Seems that, that info was created to protect the Edge browser from malware, according to the value name itself.

Apparently, phishing page was not blocked fully.

Closing words: Symantec could learn sth from VIPRE. :)

PS: Please help remove/ hide the number (at the bottom of that fake LP) to stop tech scammers. Sorry, that screenshot was attached to help report that number only. :(
