blockedsystem66

I was on eBay this morning, clicking on the usual insite links. Suddenly, my web browser (Google) froze, and a small pop-up appeared. Here is what it said:

blockedsystem66.com says:

* * Your system has been blocked. * *

Error # 36588a1be2ca552

Please call us immediately at: (855) 256-0520

Please do not ignore this safety alert. If you close this page before calling us, your computer access will be disabled to prevent further damage to our network.

Your computer has alerted us that it has been infected with a spyware and a virus. Our systems detected that the following information is compromised...

> Facebook Login
> Credit Card Number
> Email Account Login
> Photos stored on this computer.

You must call us immediately so that our engineers can walk you through the removal process over the phone. A certified Windows Support agent is standing by for your call right now.

Toll Free: (855) 256-0520

[OK]

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ( I have also included a screen shot of this.)

Behind the pop-up was a webpage that appeared to be from Microsoft. (The tab title actually said " Microsoft Official Support")
I decided to call the number and was connected to a person claiming to be from the Microsoft Support Team. The conversation was brief, as I became increasingly suspicious of this man who had no idea why I was calling. I ended the call when I was suddenly transferred to another person.

I then went to Google search for blockesystem66, for which there was no information. Now THAT was surprising.

My next stop was WHOIS, where I found out what I suspected all along... Phishers.

I must now return to the pressing business of scanning my system for any threats. I hope this information is useful to others. BEWARE!

Re: blockedsystem66

Apparently one of the links you clicked displays this fake alert.  The proper response is to close your browser by pressing ALT+F4.

Re: blockedsystem66

I appreciate your input, but here's the thing. The link I clicked on is the same link I click on every time I go to MyEbay > Watch List. How does a link that was fine yesterday (and long before) suddenly become bad?

Re: blockedsystem66

Had the exact same thing happen to me this morning on my desktop computer and I was NOT on eBay.

This will not close my browser

Re: blockedsystem66

I just used my Task Manager to close the browser. Ctrl + Alt + Del

Oddly enough, I clicked the my eBay Watch List link again this evening and had no problem.

It goes back to my earlier question... How can a link I always use suddenly be bad? And then, later the same day, go back to being okay?

Hello

Please see this link.

Perhaps eBay is having an issue with their website.

Thanks.

Re: blockedsystem66

I don't think it's eBay, because the problem doesn't occur with the IE or MS Edge browsers. I believe it is the Chrome browser that has been breached in some fashion.

Hello

Have you tried getting a fresh copy of Chrome? Has Chrome just updated? Try getting fresh extensions also.

Thanks.

All my applications are updated automatically. Only Chrome has this problem.

Re: blockedsystem66

Chrome may be compromised. It's not a Norton issue, so try taking advice in the same spirit as it's offered.

It may be an issue with Chrome AND Norton. It remains to be seen. I'll wait and see what transpires.

Re: blockedsystem66

But how is this related to Norton? There are many users that have posted about scam updates for FF, and phony malware detections that pop up trying to get the unsuspecting users to call the toll free number to spend a lot of money on a phony fix.

This is not a Norton problem.

Many users found an ad blocker add on to the browser stopped this kind of pop up. Myself included.

Re: blockedsystem66

Then why is Norton blocking web pages that are not malicious? The last thing I need is another add-on to slow down my browser!

Because your browser has been redirected to a phishing site that Norton is trying to protect you from. If you had the add blocker, you would not have been redirected, and Norton would not have shown any message at all.

EDIT  Norton is not blocking anything as shown in the image from the first post.

Obviously, it is up to you what you want to add to your browser.

Re: blockedsystem66

You are obviously only seeing one side of this issue. My browser is not being redirected any where, it's being blocked from a link that is used every day by everybody at the eBay website. The issue with the pop-up is just one part of the entire problem. Read the other posts here at: Fraudulent Web Page Blocked EBAY. Then, maybe, you'll have a better understanding about what is happening. This is a FIRST TIME occurrence, not a re-occurring one.

I am not a new user. I've been online for over 18 years, and swear by Norton as my AV and Online Security. I am well aware of the issues we face on the internet, as well as in our home connections. Be careful what you assume.

Re: blockedsystem66

The issue you are seeing is your browser being redirected to the fake support scam. Your image shows nothing about any Norton pop up or message. This kind of redirect can be stopped with an ad blocker.

The Fraudulent web site blocked issues are a different issue that is a Norton problem. Check the image in this post to see the Norton message for this issue.  https://community.norton.com/en/comment/7334211#comment-7334211

Re: blockedsystem66

Like I said, you only know part of the issue. I've been in touch with Norton. One issue preceded the other. There is a correlation that is currently under investigation. You really don't have ALL the information.

Re: blockedsystem66

The users in Fraudulent Web Page Blocked EBAY., make no mention of the fake Microsoft support page. They seem to be seeing the Norton block message I suggested you check in my last post. Did you ever see one of those Norton messages on your eBay pages?

And your image does not show any Norton message anywhere. That is why I am suggesting you are looking at two different issues.

I may not have ALL your information, but I have been following all the threads about the Fraudulent Web Page Blocked messages and none have the symptoms you described and illustrated with the image in your first post.

Re: blockedsystem66

Hi. That blocked thing with the Microsoft support # happened to us 3 times from November through January.. Each time we lost our system and had to start new. I got the same screen as you did except the phone # to call them was 1-844-788-1973. The man spoke with an India accent and said he was Microsoft. I let him in our PC the first time and he loaded screens using Citrix? I think. Last screen was a price list -- 199.99 for a quick fix and other "Microsoft" protection programs costing hundreds more. He insisted my Norton was no good for protection and I had to buy his products. I have used Norton since the 1990s. After the 3rd crash I bought a new Norton Security Deluxe out of fear even though I had current Norton protection. The last attack and crash was Jan. 12. Since then, OK. My biggest problem is that this guy calls my house almost every day. If I hang up, he calls back up to 4 times until I let him go through his speech about my PC being hacked. I can't block his calls on my system. It's a nightmare. I only go to Norton approved sites now and watch the Norton toolbar carefully. I hope this guy goes away.

Re: blockedsystem66

I think I just got my answer from your post that is above my first one about this. Thanks for the scamadviser link. When I got the page saying my PC was blocked it also had systemalertx001.info . It's from India and is suspicious. It's worse than that as they tried to attack more than my PC. It did them no good. I wonder what I should say to this guy when he calls again?

Re: blockedsystem66

Hi, Pamela. Just hang up, and never say yes if they ask a question.

Some scammers have been known to record the conversation, and use the yes as a way of saying that you'd approved whatever scam they were trying.

No reputable software company such as Symantec or !! Microsoft !!, will ever cold call you.

Re: blockedsystem66

Hello

As a precaution, I would suggest you change your passwords even though you reinstalled everything. You mentioned that you bought another Norton Security program even though your sub. wasn't over. You can call customer support and ask if they can combine the 2 subscriptions under the circumstances. You can use this link to contact Customer Support.

Thanks.
