Blue circle and Loading...

This seems to be something new.  When computer has been freshly started, and Norton Security is opened, usually the first time, nothing happens for a few or for several seconds, and then a screen comes up with a blue circle, and the message, "Loading...", which remain for several seconds, before the normal Norton Security front window opens.  I have been finding this to happen on one particular laptop - cannot remember if it also is happening on 'the other' laptop.

Re: Blue circle and Loading...

Hi, G_cafe_c. I've seen that once, and the program loaded almost immediately.

I haven't seen it since, so probably just an aberration !

When you say, "When computer has been freshly started...", I'm guessing you mean a cold start, or cold boot.  there is a lot of things going on when a Windows machine first boots and I find giving the machine a few minutes (like 5 or 10) to get up and running before I start using it always gives me better performance.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Re: Blue circle and Loading...

I should include:  Laptop has Windows Vista sp2, fully updated.

With this machine, the display as described is common, frequent upon first opening Norton Security (which is also always fully live-updated).  This has been going on for about two or three months, or so.    This blue.... display as described will occur from either normal cold-start of computer, or from any normal Restart of computer.  I usually do wait at least 5 minutes after whichever computer startup before trying to open Norton Security.

Let me try opening Norton Security right now, since the machine has been ON for more than an hour, and NS already was opened and used a couple of times during the computer session...

...Norton Security opened to its normal front window, about 3 seconds; none of the blue circle + Loading... display.

@G_cafe_c:

Have you tried disabling some possibly unused items from running with your Vista? I mean you may take a closer look at the below items:

  • the "Uninstall a program" link under Control Panel - temporarily uninstall any other 3rd-party security program and, restart when ready;
  • Startup;
  • Task Scheduler.

 For related info, you may read this know-how regarding "Disabling Startup Programs in Windows". You can make the best of the free version of CCleaner if you're new to the above tweaking & customizing your Vista.

If your issue continues, please upload a screenshot of that if you can and then, you give Norton Remove and Reinstall tool try.

For more info, you may Chat with Norton Support.

Please post back if this or any other comment solves your problem. THX...

Re: Blue circle and Loading...

The install of Norton Security is v 22.8.1.14, and it seems to work without trouble.  The blue circle and "Loading..." when opening NS first time in each computer session seems a DELAY, but impression is that not a bad functioning of NS.  No other security & protection product is installed on the machine.

" Laptop has Windows Vista sp2, fully updated"

I would imagine the specs on this laptop are on the weak side - and that alone can cause what you are seeing - especially in conjunction with excessive start-up items as  20750065 stated.

You may desire to try a different Boot Time Protection setting under Antivirus and also under Admin Settings - what do you have Automatic Task Delay set at?

These are the only startup items which have check-marks:
RAID Event Monitor
StartCCC
Synaptics Pointing Device Driver
Chiconey Traybar
Windows Defender
Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba
Toshiba Power Saver
Toshiba Button Support
Toshiba Zooming Utility
Toshiba Flash Cards
ConfigFree(TM) Tray
Canon My Printer
Canon Solution Menu EX
TblMouse
Microsoft Windows Operating System

(Note that Windows Defender and Windows Firewall are disabled.)

Computer's Machine Specifications:
Intel Core Duo CPU, T5550 @ 1.83 GHz
RAM = 3.00 GB
32-bit operating system

The affected computer has been started and run for about 12 to 15 minutes before I began posting this response and then opened Norton Security (so I could check into Administrative Settings).  The product opened normally without showing the blue circle and blue Loading message.

The administrative stuff shows this:  Automatic Delay from Sleep or Hibernation = 10 minutes; Automatic Tasks Delay = 20 minutes; Idle Time-out = 10 minutes.   Idle Time Optimizer = On.

Looking in the Tasks Scheduling, Tasks Scheduling is set to Automatic.  The automatic tasks picked are only  Internet Explorer Temp files and Windows Temp files.

Anti-Virus Section:  Boot Time Protection is set to OFF;

Helpful for understanding or explaining?  Tell me what you can.

Re: Blue circle and Loading...

It might be worth trying the Boot Time Protection to Normal. This loads the Norton protection earlier in the boot sequence. This may help with the Norton UI loading time after bootup.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Or even Aggressive, which ensures Norton loads before anything else.

Re: Blue circle and Loading...

Basically it's nothing to worry about, it's not a problem.

I have seen it on several somewhat slower systems/operating systems, but the main UI always appears and Norton functions well. It's just initializing the UI as some other programs also do.

Boot time protection setting to Normal or Aggressive is always wise. On slower systems better choose Normal, as Aggresive has more impact on boot-times.

Re: Blue circle and Loading...

Boot Time Protection now set to Normal, and I made a couple of checks to see how Norton Security opens.  Only a delay of maybe five seconds, opening to a normal front N.S. interface, and no appearance of blue circle blue Loading message.  I waited no more than 3 minutes after a computer restart.  I tried again later after another restart and NS opened to usual main front interface window.

Re: Blue circle and Loading...

So the blue circle is really no problem, it ony indicates some loading of the UI. You made some adjustments and that means that you are satisfied and this case can be set to solved.
