Bugs in ID Safe Drop Down

OK a couple of questions - hope Norton actually bother reading some of these forums as there seems no way to report oddities which only happen some times....

This is using the online vault..

a) Under what circumstances should I see the drop down :

(no login options provided to choose from) - it was not a connection issue - sometimes when I refreshed the same page, the drop down appeared fleetingly and disappeared, and clicking on Vault is Open had no effect.

I had to close down Firefox (v23) and restart it to get it to work...

b) When I restarted Firefox, I went to www.ipower.com to log back in, and instead got the following at the top:

Clicking on Fill did nothing - once I clicked on the close button, I then got the drop down asking which login you would like to use - this time it gave the appropriate options...

Re: Bugs in ID Safe Drop Down

This may seem an odd suggestion but based on other reported issues regarding conflicts with video HW and/or video driver version conflicts; have you tried disabling (uncheck) the Hardware Acceleration option within FF (just as a test) to see if doing so has an effect on the issue?

The option can be found on the FF General settings tab...

Kind Regards,

John

Re: Bugs in ID Safe Drop Down

I tried disabling hardware acceleration - no effect.

However, I think I have pinpointed when this happens - it happens if you are signed into Norton Vault, and the computer goes to sleep with the Firefox window open.

When you wake the computer, Norton Vault just does not work properly - ie. you get which login do you want to use (with no options) and clicking on Vault is Open does nothing.

Actually the only option on the Norton Toolbar which works, is the Safe Search!

Re: Bugs in ID Safe Drop Down

If your computer happens to implement the latest version of Intel's Rapid Start technology, which in recent Intel chipset versions has been enhanced to "assist" the computer's power saving functions during sleep mode by inducing a hybridized mix of Sleep+Hibernate.

This mode (if enabled) will trigger after the computer has been in normal sleep for a user definable period of time...

If you know you have this feature, and that it is currently enabled, then you could try disabling it (on computers that are thus equipped there is an in-Windows "Intel" user control panel applet - look in your task tray for it) to see if it addresses your problem.

Kind regards,

John

No I don't appear to have this installed and it happens on both my PC and laptop - both are running Windows 7 64 bit

Re: Bugs in ID Safe Drop Down

Do you happen to have your windows font metrics setting at something other than 100% (i.e. 125%, etc.)?  If so, I've seen it play hob with various (Norton included) BHO GUI interfaces...

Re: Bugs in ID Safe Drop Down

Nope - it is set at 100%

Actually just realised that this time the laptop came back from being asleep, Norton vault / ID safe / taskbar is working ok, so very hard to pin down the circumstances when it happens.

It is probably something the Norton developers need to look at and investigate - but how the hell do you report it to them, as it is NOT site specific - no idea if they even read these boards to see where people are having problems - it seems to be left to other users to help each other out!

Re: Bugs in ID Safe Drop Down

Oh - They read the boards, so don't worry about that - They have been rather mum of late, but they definitely do keep eyes on what's being complained about...

My personal (and for that matter, my company's corporate) solution has been to roll back to the previous product releases until such time as there is an official announcement from Symantec that these (and various other) issues have been addressed; and then only if our one test system that still remains on the new release collaborates that announcement.
