Cannot add new files to backup

I have some additional files I want to add to my list of backups.  I go through the steps of logging into my account, selecting the 'what' tab, select add new files and browse to where the files are located, click on them and then OK.  However, it never adds them to the list of files that are being backed up every day.  It's crucial I get these files backed up...which is why I pay for this product, but it won't let me add any.  Any ideas?

What program are you using? What O/S are you using.?

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view. Windows 10 Pro 64 bit Norton Core Security Plus 22.18.0.213 Core Firmware 282 I E 11 Chrome latest version.

Hi swissmrs.

I have some experience of backing up with N360 and NSBU but have not used NOBU.  I assume it operates in a similar way but it might help if you could post a screen shot of the window where you are marking the new files for backup.  If you need advice on how to do that then let us know and we will help.

This certainly sounds odd though I am not sure how you are ascertaining that the files have not been backed up.  I assume that you have looked into the backup and not found them there.  Is this the case?  

Things I would be inclined to start checking are

  • whether the other files that are supposed to be backup are in-fact backed up (I would try a test restore with one or two files)
  • checking to see if the total back up shown by preview changes if I temporarily add a new large folder.

As mentioned in my original post, it's the fact when I select new files to add to the list of things to be backed up, it won't let me add anything new to the list.  When I get the attached screen, I select add new files which opens up the browse dialog box where I select the file and then click ok.  I then click save on the attached screen but if I got back, the new files I selected have not been added to the list displayed.  It won't let me add any additional files or folders to the existing list.  I have plenty of storage left as it's only at 25% capacity.

Hello again swissmrs.

I do not know why you are having this problem.  All I can do is throw in a few ideas in case they have not occurred to you before.

One thought is that it might be a temporary server error and so I would reboot my computer and try again after 24 hrs.  But I suspect you have already done that.

I note from the NOBU manual that there was a problem with earlier version of Internet Explorer (I assume you are not using IE 6.0 at this stage) but wonder if you have thought of trying a different browser.

To my surprise one of the instructions for adding files in the manual refers to needing to "then click Open".  You do not seem to have mentioned "open" and I wonder if this is just an oversight or the manual being out of date.

If I were where you seem to be, I would try restoring one of the backed up files to confirm that I really do have a working connection to the backup.  I might also try creating a new test backup set to see if that works and see if I can add any files to that after it is first run.

That seems to run me out of ideas at the moment.  I hope that the above may be of some use.

The only other things I can suggest is that you might try the Norton Chat link to see if someone who should be able to access the Norton servers, can help.

If none of the above helps and you would like I could try and get the attention of the NOBU team.  So let me know if you want me to try, but do not hold out any great hopes.

not a temporary server error.  This issue has been going on for several months now.   I use the latest version of Firefox to access my account.  There is no Open command during the process.  I am just given the option to browse to the list of files or folders where I select one and click OK.  The dialogue box disappears after that and I click SAVE on my account but the files still never show up on the list of files/folders that are to be backed up.  Neither doing this through my account or by right clicking the icon on my tray to add new files/folders seems to work.  I've been using this product for nearly 4 years so I am quite familiar with the process of adding things to be backed up but this is the first time it's not allowing me to add anything.
