cannot run backup

Hi - hope you can help. I tried to run a Norton backup in the normal way to an external drive, as I have done several times before. However it started but failed to copy the files, simply sticking on the same file for a couple of hours. I tried to cancel the backup but it would not respond to the "cancel" button and eventually had no choice but to shut the window down.

Now, every time I try to run a new backup it gives an error  "another backup run is in operation, please try later". Needless to say I have shut down and restarted several times and also waited a few days but to no avail.

How do I a) kill the original backup job so that Norton doesn't think it is still running? and b) fix the original problem of the backup not copying files?

I am on Windows 10 and using an external WD drive which is far from full

many thanks

Re: cannot run backup

Restarting your computer should reset the backup task. Not necessarily shutting down and restarting. If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: cannot run backup

Thank you, that seems to have fixed it. Have learnt something today i.e. that a restart would reset something a shutdown would not.

The original problem seems to have been caused by a problem with Windows 10, which was unable to create new folders. I eventually found a fix for this by running some cleanup utilities off the Microsoft website.

Re: cannot run backup

Did you receive any error message while performing backup? Check whether the associated services for Windows backup is running or not.
