Catch 22 - NIS and Norton

I have had the situation (twice) that I changed my Norton password using the NIS Password Generator.  The update was made correctly, but the next time I attempted to access NIS, I was told that I must first login into Norton.  Of course, my password for logging into Norton is in the NIS Password Vault.

The first time this situation occurred, I had to attempt a login to Norton and state that I could not remember my password.  After answering security questions, I was provided an email link that allowed me to set a new password (not through NIS).  A lot of trouble.

The second time this situation occurred, I had save my new, NIS-generated password as a text file before restarting NIS.  Also awkward, but workable.

I understand that Norton wants to be certain that you are the valid owner of the NIS Password Vault by making you go through the Norton logon.  However, a simpler solution is needed rather than saving the Norton password externally or resetting the Norton password.

Re: Catch 22 - NIS and Norton

Are you talking about your Norton Account password or the Vault password? I take it that your reference to NIS is for Identity Safe and not Norton Internet Security.

To access the Norton Account, you will always have to remember the password for that account. If you ever get logged out of your Norton Account, you will not be able to access your ID Safe vault without knowing the Norton Account password.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Bob Drury?  You wouldn't happen to be any relation to James would you?  (Hearty laugh) ;-)

No relation to James Drury (actor), Paul Drury (hockey player), Brandon Drury (baseball player) or Allen Drury (writer).  No talent in my branch of the family, unfortunately.

(Mark Hamill voice as the Joker): That response was hilarious! (enter Joker laugh)

Sorry the talent didn't fall on your side.  It was worth asking.  But maybe there's hope for you yet, you are Bob Drury Norton Contributor!  Well, it's a start at least...
