ccScanW issues?

Hello Forum

After the last 2 weekly antivirus scans on my Windows 7 Pro 64 bit desktop computer, I noticed that there was an error listed. There seems to be a problem with ccScanW. I'm not sure if it coincides with the last update or not.. Each week it lists 4 error files. It also say s it's a high severity error.

Is anyone else having such a high severity error with ccScanW? The Get Support doesn't do anything for that. So far it only comes up during the weekly scans. Is this something that would get fixed by a replace and reinstall of Norton Security Core Plus.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Re: ccScanW issues?

Is this an error that comes up during/after the scan? Or is it something you are seeing in the Norton History?

Re: ccScanW issues?

Hi Floplot.

If these errors are in the Norton History, could you please copy and paste the items with the errors or export the logs to a txt file (not mcf) and send it to me in a private message? I can look up the errors in Symqual.

Thanks

Re: ccScanW issues?

All: Doing a small bit of research I came across this article. From the article the heading states "Symantec Norton Antivirus ccScanw.dll Unpack ShortLZ memory corruption attempt". Do you have an older version of WinRAR installed on your system? Of course without a error log or code there isn't a true way to know if that is the case with you. Floplot, have you submitted the detections for a second review or does Norton have enough information that is flat out sees these as a known threat attempt? What does your history show for intrusion? Anything detected in Core, I ask because I know you are a Core user.

Cheers

Re: ccScanW issues?

Hello peterweb

These are errors I have noticed in History Logs under Norton Error Reporting. They correspond to the times of my scans.

Hello Tim----- PM sent. Thanks.

Re: ccScanW issues?

Hello Soul

My Error Detection Log does not mention anything about a .dll. It doesn't mention anything about any malware. There is no indication of any malware. This seems to be an error with a module that does part of the scanning I would guess. There is nothing listed in Core. I don't have WinRAR as far as I know. This error shows up in the Log a few hours after the scan is finished.

I have sent Tim what he requested.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Re: ccScanW issues?

Thanks floplot for reporting this. I found the error bucket in Symqual. There were just a trickle of these until 10/10.

Let me report what I have found so far to the component teams and see if they know about this error or what may have changed.

Thanks
