CHROME NOTIFICATIONS

I use Chrome. Recently I have been getting quite a lot (twenty a day) of "Notifications" in a column on the RHS of my screen. A few of these might be genuine items, but most of them tell me that Norton has expired, my PC is infected with fatal viruses and their company will save me from death, girls showing me their tits and wanting to know me better, and so on. I would like to block ALL these notifications and I was hoping Norton could already do it. Can I activate something in my existing account ?

Re: CHROME NOTIFICATIONS

Hello David.  Clear your Chrome caches and cookies. Restart the computer. Norton sometimes misses things that programs like Malwarebytes will detect, because Norton mainly focuses on preventing the OS's from being damaged. Install and do a full run with MBAM, lets see what it does or doesn't find to make sure you are clean. You may also want to run Chrome in isolation mode. Some information about that can be found here.

Cheers

Re: CHROME NOTIFICATIONS

Thanks for this. Sorry to be so ignorant but I do not know how to clear the Chrome caches and cookies.

"Install and do a full run with MBAM...."  ?? Also ran the ship aground on the rock of ignorance.

Re: CHROME NOTIFICATIONS

David, use this article as a guide to clear your Chrome caches and cookies. Its fairly straight forward and easy to use.

Also, just click the link I provided for Malwarebytes, it should prompt you to download the installer file. When done it then should prompt you to then run that file. Click run and allow it to install. When its installed you'll see the MBAM icon in the system tray, click it. MBAM will open. Follow prompts and click scan. Allow the scan to take place, once done MBAM will present you with a list of files to add to Quarantine if any are found. You can then post a screenshot of what is found, we can assist you with what is and isn't legit. If you are on Windows 10 you can use Snip & Sketch to capture your screenshots.

Cheers

Re: CHROME NOTIFICATIONS

Thank you for all that. The first part I carried through OK. The Malawares thing I installed and ran. It said that it had found 69 undesireables, I could not stretch the window wide enough to get the full links. All the items except for three or four seemed to have a similar link. All of them said "Potentially unwanted program". I made a screen print of part of the output. While I a dpoing all this more porno notifications are appearing on RHS of my screen.

Re: CHROME NOTIFICATIONS

Hi DavidQMorley,

Um, your email address is not masked.

Um, did you try Save Results.
Um, did you try Quarantine Selected.

Um, you may want to show your Norton Icon

Re: CHROME NOTIFICATIONS

David, I'm sorry for the tardy reply. Have MBAM remove ALL those entries then reboot your computer. Once rebooted look for the notifications reappearing. Let us know what your results are.

Cheers

Re: CHROME NOTIFICATIONS

Hello Please remember to run Live Update every time you use the program as it updates quite frequently. Have a Good Night and Thanks.

Re: CHROME NOTIFICATIONS

I assume Remove all those entries means quarantine them, because I could not see an option for Remove.

I have not re-booted yet. I seem to have dropped the porny notifications, just getting one or two which look fairly routine : A couple of notes from Norton, for example. So, making progress with your help. Thank you.

Do I want the Premium version of Malwarebytes ?

Many here do run the Premium version of MBAM along side Norton with no issues. Many also just use the free version as a standalone, on demand, scanner. Running a scan once a week or so, depending on you internet habits, should protect you without the possibility of conflicts when running two real time scanner products.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: CHROME NOTIFICATIONS

David. Open MBAM, on the left select "Quarantine". When your list of detections have populated click the small box next to Name. That will select all the detections. At the bottom click "Delete" to remove them.
