Clone Hard Drive Backup to Norton Cloud

My skills are limited; that is why I subscribe to Norton products, in this case Norton 360 Premiere.

About ten days ago, the hard drive on my laptop froze (I have since then freed it). In discussing what we do from here on, my son says we need to clone the current hard drive and install the contents on a new SSD. I have been using my Norton account to back up my data. Now can I create a clone backup on the Norton cloud that we can then use on the new hard drive?

Thanks

Re: Clone Hard Drive Backup to Norton Cloud

Hello W C Marten.

Welcome to the Norton Community Forums.

I am not sure that I fully follow your post.

  • Is your hard drive now usable or not?  If it is have you lost data?
  • Where have you been saving your backed up data with Norton up until now?  An external drive or where?
  • And I do not understand what you mean by creating "a clone backup on the Norton cloud".  Do you mean clone your current backup and put it on the Norton servers?  If so why would you want to do that?

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Re: Clone Hard Drive Backup to Norton Cloud

My hard drive is usable. To the best of my knowledge I have lost no data. I just don't want to get caught with a frozen hard drive again.

Before I started saving to Norton Secure Online, I saved my data to an external, flash drive.

Before I buy and install a new, reliable hard drive, I want to save everything on my current hard drive (data, programs, whatever) so I can transfer lock, stock, and barrel to the new hard drive. With my limited understanding, I thought that was called cloning.

My hope was that I could copy my current hard drive to Norton Secure Online storage, then restore it or save it to the new hard drive. That seemed simpler to me than saving it to an external drive and then moving it from there to the new hard drive.

Re: Clone Hard Drive Backup to Norton Cloud

Hello again W C Marten.

Thanks for the explanation I think all is now clear.

Sadly the simple answer is that Norton 360 Premiere will not do what you want and neither will Norton Security with Backup.  They just backup data files.

What I think you want is to take and "image" of your drive and N360 does not do that.  There are a number of products that will do that but I am probably not the best person to suggest one to you.

Hopefully someone else will be able to.

Good luck in your quest.

Re: Clone Hard Drive Backup to Norton Cloud

You will need to invest in Norton Ghost, now SSR2013 R2, this version is supported upto Win8.1.

This software will backup the primary drive and all the data and apps. The files or restore points created can be used to "Clone" to a new drive. Log onto the Ghost forum for further info.
