This forum thread needs a solution.

Crashed from Windows 10 Installation

I have tried everything - including using my windows 7 recovery disk.  I just get a blue screen.  I am about ready to re-install Windows 7 but wanted to see if there is a way that I can recover my files on my external hard drive.  Can someone tell me how to do this when you can't log into windows anymore (not even safe mode)?

Welcome to the Norton Community Forums.

Sorry about the circumstances.  

I am not able to help you as I am staying well away from Windows 10 for the time being.  Also I do not think this is a "Backup" issue as Norton cannot restore files to a system which does not exist.  If you had a disk image [that neither N360 nor NSBU produce] that might help but that is not a subject for this forum.

So I am sorry to say that I think the problem seems to be a Microsoft one.  In this forum (Backup) your problem will get fairly few views, if you could tell us whether you were using N360 or NSBU I could ask to have the thread transferred to the relevant forum where there may be more users with Windows 10 experience.

Your external drive should be unchanged, if you plug it into a working computer they should all be there.

Unless you mean that you want to recover files from the non-working system onto your external drive?  For that you need to either connect the drive to a working system or boot the system with something like a Linux live CD and copy the files from it to the external drive.
