Daily login to Vault requires first signing into Norton Account

For the last four days, every time I attempt to log into the Vault, I am first prompted to log into my Norton account.  I used the support tab which initiated a check on my Norton product.  Some "repair" program was then initiated, but the problem persists.  Anyone find a fix for this?  Thanks!

Hi lithojack,

What is your Norton Product or is it the Stand Alone ID Safe?  Operating system and default brow3ser may also prove handy.  One the products main page, select Support > about and tell us the version number.

Have you recently upgrade to a new version and now have an Online Vault instead of a Local Vault?

Also check to see if in the upper right hand corner of your Norton's main page if it has you email address, your name or Sign in?  If sign-in, sign into your Norton account and then try to open your vault again.

Re: Daily login to Vault requires first signing into Norton Account

hello, exactly the same here, Norton Security's Vault/Win8, used to work great, loaded fast

since some time ago became sloooow to load and always prompts to log into my Norton account, in my case requiring the Security Code via SMS

fails from the NS console link or any of the browser toolbars (IE, Firefox or Chrome)

I'll try to remove and reinstall Norton Security and post back the results

Re: Daily login to Vault requires first signing into Norton Account

I run Norton Identity Safe (NIS) both stand-alone and the one with Norton Internet Security.

They both prompt me to log into my Norton account instead of my vault.

Sometimes it is every once in awhile but lately its almost every time I log in to my machines.

Both machines run Win 8.1 pro.

For the stand alone NIS version I am using 2014.7.8.23

At home, I use the Norton Internet Security, and am not sure the version (since I am at work), but I run live update, so I assume I got the latest version.

Since I do not keep my Norton account password handy I am effectively locked out of my passwords.

Re: Daily login to Vault requires first signing into Norton Account

Hi,

In answer to your questions, I am running version 22.1.0.9 of Norton Security on Vista OS using Firefox that is current.  I have been using the cloud based vault for over one year.  It shows that I am signed in on the upper right hand corner.

Hi Lithojack - Since you have been using the cloud vault for a longer time ("for over one year") than the current NS product has been publicly available, can you tell us which Norton product you were previously using to access the cloud vault before installing/upgrading to the integrated vault manager that's included/integrated with NS v22?

Re: Daily login to Vault requires first signing into Norton Account

If you manually uninstalled NIS prior to installing NS you would have been prompted to keep using your ID Vault by the NIS uninstaller.  Agreeing to this option installs the free stand alone ID Vault manager and NTB products.  This "stand alone" installation may have been left in place when NS installed and can conflict with the proper functioning of the equivalent elements within NS.  Please go to Windows Control Panel - Programs and Features - and look in the list of installed Norton products.  If you see a separate (additional) entry for Norton Identity Safe, please uninstall it, then reboot your computer...  If this is not the case (no stand alone ID safe installed,) or if you continue to experience the credentials log-in issue after uninstalling the stand alone product, then please try the following steps...

Open NS

Click on your Account ID in the upper right corner of the GUI and Sign out of your Norton account

Reboot your computer

After Reboot, open the NS GUI - But do not sign in to your Norton account yet

Click - Settings - Identity Protection - Configure option (located on the Identity Safe entry)

Now enter your Norton account credentials and Vault PW when prompted

Close all dialog boxes and the NS GUI

Open your web browser and confirm that "Vault is OPEN" is showing on the NTB

Confirm that your Vault is operational by browsing to a recorded website and that filling is functioning.

Click on "Vault is OPEN" on the NTB and select Close Vault

Click on "Vault is CLOSED"

Please let us know if the ID Vault app now prompts only for your Vault PW...

Kind regards,

John

I did not find a separate NIS entry under the programs file, so I tried your other suggestion.  It seems to now be working great.

Thanks, and have a great day!

I guess I spoke too early.  It was fine for that one day, but the same problem has returned for the last two days.  Any additional suggestions?

Re: Daily login to Vault requires first signing into Norton Account

I have had this problem ever since upgrading to Norton Security with Backup.

Sometimes I can login to vault as normal, other times I have to login to my Norton Account first.

After doing this there is a screen saying Checking Subscription - followed by another screen asking for Norton Account password which changes (after about half a minute) to the normal Vault login screen.

Very very frustrating.

Can someone from Norton please provide a definitive answer to this problem.

Re: Daily login to Vault requires first signing into Norton Account

I am also having the same problem.. very frustrating.. I had been using the offline version for years and years, and that's the one that always linked up with the new version of NS 2015.. but now all too often I'll find that the password thing is no longer active and so I try to login again but instead of it asking for my password to the vault it asks for a NEW one as if I don't even have the vault anymore and that a new one will overwrite any old one (wtf?) but asks if I want to check if I already have one online, it checks and finds it, then eventually it'll let me in via the toolbar if it won't via the NS program.. but gosh this is getting frustrating.. why can't the program just ask to sign in and let me.. and stay signed in.. so damned frustrated with the thing. I may have to go to a third party manager if Norton cannot do it right.. sheez.

FWIW...

The Norton posting acknowledging this issue is pinned to the top of this forum...

Here is the link to that posting:

Re: Daily login to Vault requires first signing into Norton Account

hello, removing and reinstalling Norton Security kept the problem, the only way it worked for me:

1. full removal of all Norton products
2. installed standalone-free version of Norton Identity Safe, activated with my account [https://identitysafe.norton.com/]
3. restart
4. installed OVER full Norton Security, activated with my account, ended with 2 active (working) versions + browser extensions of NIS
5. restart
6. removed the standalone NIS version, in Internet Explorer had to remove the old add-on (both were there even after the NIS uninstall)
7. restart

RESULT: no more log in/speed problems with the Norton Security’s NIS since then!

I really hope it works for you too, thanks

Hello peterq1

This might have helped you also with the ID Standalone Safe login and slowness issues.. Also known as IDSS

Re: Daily login to Vault requires first signing into Norton Account

Hi peterq1,

I have to question if you ended up with a Local Vault or and Online Vault in Norton Security?

I am having problems understanding how you could remove all Norton Products and end up with a Local Vault by over installing Norton Security over top of only an installed Online Stand Alone Vault?

I agree with Floplot that users really need to start using IDSS for the ID Standalone Safe in, lieu of NIS which is the standard abbreviation used for Norton Internet Security.
