Deleted Computers from Backup Set but space not freed up

I deleted two computers from my backup set but the space has never been freed up.  I now have it complaining about no space left (95% full out of 55 GB) when only 33 GB of backed up files shows up on my account.  Who can I email to look into this?  I was going to try chat but the wait is 26 minutes and I don't have time for that right now.

Hi yusishen.

I would think that web Chat is still probably the best thing.  You might try again, hopefully the wait will be shorter.

I assume you are referring to online backup.

Have you looked at the Norton Backup Drive which should show on your computer when you use Windows Explorer (or similar).  When connected to the internet open this virtual drive and it should show your online backups.  With luck it will show the files of the backup sets you have removed.  If it does you have the option to remove them from there by right clicking and then selecting Delete.

Do let us know how you get on.

Yes, this is Online Backup (sorry for not clarifying that).  I have nothing called Norton Backup Drive or anything like that under Windows Explorer.  Windows 10 if that makes a difference.  I have logged into Norton Online Backup there and I only see the backup sets for the two computers that are still active.  The other two (that I deleted using "remove computer") are not visible.  Remove computer is supposed to purge the backup data but doesn't seem to have done that.  I no longer have those computers so can't connect via them anyway.

I'll have to try chat then but I was hoping I could just email my account information to someone at tech support and they could look it up that way.

In this case the problem must be JUNK FILES. Try Krojam Cleaner for complete removal of junk files and it will free alot of space.

I don't see how you are going to be able to clean out files on the Norton servers using some other software marijamarija.  So I do not see your post as a possible solution.

As we have not heard from yusishen for over a month I am hoping that Norton managed to get him sorted out.

Problem has not been solved as I haven't had time to talk to Norton chat. Every time I try, the wait is 30 minutes or more and I just haven't had that much time. I will try again soon. I know the above suggestion is useless and wouldn't have touched it.

Hi yusishen.

Sorry to hear the your problems remain, I will see if I can get you some attention.

Good luck.

P.S.  I did not think that you would take marijamarija's post seriously, I just wanted to make a point to others that it did not appear a helpful suggestion.

Re: Deleted Computers from Backup Set but space not freed up

Finally got through to chat.  After multiple attempts to get me to let them have control of my computer (which I refused to do) we have finally gotten to me sending them a screenshot showing what I show as used space so they can match it to what shows at their end.  It doesn't matter what computer I use to view the account, it's the same numbers so no reason for remote access to the computer.  That just seems to be their default way to solve all problems regardless of whether it is actually necessary.  I will update when I get more information.

Hello @yusishen,

I think I can help. I've dropped you a Private Mail, which you can access from your Forum Inbox.

Thanks,

Matt

Re: Deleted Computers from Backup Set but space not freed up

Had a phone call today and while the space used now matches the percentage, it's not a good solution.  Both are now 10% because they not only purged the backups from the computers I deleted but also the backups from one of the computers I had left!  Good thing that computer's hard drive is still here (and in fact, most of the data has been copied to another computer anyway) so I can re-create that backup set.

I give up at this point.  Just hope they leave things alone now.
