Disk Optimization setting issue

Running latest ver of Norton Security

Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1

I do not use the Disk Optimization feature prefering instead to manually run the Windows Disk Defragmentation program. So I have unchecked Disk Optimization in Norton Task Scheduling. In fact I have unchecked everything in Norton Task Scheduling.

Today I clicked to run Windows Disk Defragmentation and I got a pop up box saying "Disk Defragmentation was scheduled using another program. Before you can modify the schedule, you must remove the customized settings".

Then there are two selection buttons - "Remove Settings" and "Cancel"

Since this never appeared with my previous NIS 2014 and appears since updating to Norton Security, I can only surmize that NS must have set a customized setting that did not get removed when I de-selected the Norton Disk Optimization feature.

Is it OK to simply select "Remove Settings" on the Windows Disk Defragmentation box?

Will it cause problems with Norton Security?

PS: I cant find an entry in the Windows Task Scheduler addressing this either.

Re: Disk Optimization setting issue

Did you turn off Idle Time Optimizer under Administrative Settings <info link>

Re: Disk Optimization setting issue

Yes, it is OFF.

I even set it to ON and then OFF to see, but issue is still there.

Re: Disk Optimization setting issue

I just manually activated it and let it run. Shows no need to defrag as my drives are 0% to 6%.

Tried to open Windows Defragmentation program - still get the same info block and message.

Anyone know what happens if I click the "Remove Settings" button option on the Windows box?

Re: Disk Optimization setting issue

What does Disk Optimizer show in Background Tasks (not Task Scheduling)
If Disk Optimize does not show Complete > Run by click arrow left side.  Then at Complete > Reboot.  Or,

"Remove Settings"....Norton may have called for Optimizer and was not Idle long enough.

Or, you have some other 'Tuneup Tool' running.   Presuming Windows Defrag/Optimize is not scheduled.

Re: Disk Optimization setting issue

Background Tasks shows Disk Optimizer Ran for 30 secs, Status Complete.

This coinsides with my Manual execution of the Optimize Disk button.

Never has Windows Disk Defragmenter scheduled ever, always ran it manually.

Not a Tash Scheduler expert, but I see no Defrag or Optimize task scheduled.

There is something called Norton WSC Integration in the scheduler that starts WSCStub.exe/taskschd in the Norton engine folder, but dont know what that is.

WSC = Windows Security Center

Sorry, re: "Disk Defragmentation was scheduled [..]".    "Remove Settings" ...

Sorry but what are you saying?

After googling the wording, apparently this issue has been around with no solution yet, other than an uninstall.

Re: Disk Optimization setting issue

Oh,. Yes I googled.   What harm to "Remove Settings"
How about a Norton refresh install...?
Do you mean uninstall Windows..?

Re: Disk Optimization setting issue

For what ever reason, the Remove Settings button on the Windows Disk Defragmenter popup window worked this time.

It gave control back to the Windows defragmenter.
