Is it necessary to scan audio/video files for virus, malware . . . . . . . ?
Are you using a Norton product? if so, please run a full system scan. The program will scan the necessary files. The program knows best in most cases.
This does not answer my question.
If you're downloading audio/video files and Norton detects a problem it will act, so no need to scan the files.
However, if you're inclined, you can right click on the file to scan it after download.
Thank you. But what I wanted to know was;
Can audio/video files be infected?
It depends from where you are getting the audio/video files. If you are getting them from a free site, they might be infected. So the answer is yes, they can be infected.
and if the files ARE infected, Norton will alert you.
Thank you, floplot.
