Does Norton Security protect both IE11 and Edge in Win 10 Pro?

Getting a new system with Windows 10 Pro x64

While checking out Norton Security on Windows 10, there are sites that state Norton Security does not protect or is incompatable with the Edge browser.

Is this correct or old information?  Does NS indeed protect both IE11 and Edge from the Internet?

Thx

I'm no expert, but based on your link/reply it does not appear protection is at all as robust as for IE11.

I cant off hand remember all the IE protection features that Norton has spoken about in the past but they were extensive.

Can you/anyone present a more specific protection chart for the rest of us to make an informed decision?

At this point it appears I will have a new up to date computer, up to date Windows 10 but have to stick with IE11 or rely on the MS Defender.

Does NS still at least provide the same IE protection as within past Windows (ie: 7 and 8)?

PS: What is all this talk about "Extensions" etc?  Is that how Norton intends to provide its full protections?

I have tested using Edge here  -  https://www.amtso.org/feature-settings-check-for-desktop-solutions/.  The only test that failed was the phishing test page, which as I explained in the other thread, Windows Defender SmartScreen protects you (not in that test page though).

I don't use any Norton extensions in Chrome and Norton does not offer protection from phishing or known malicious websites without the Norton Security Toolbar.  All other tests are passed at the above site just as they are with Edge.

If you set your search engine to Google in Edge, Google already protects from dangerous sites.

Google Safe Browsing

I guess Bing would offer a similar service.

Hello

With version 22.12.1.14, please make sure your browsers get allowed into the Norton Firewall. I have noticed that the Norton Firewall has had all the program settings wiped as if you had done a Firewall Reset. It took several tries to get my IE 11 Win 7 allowed into the Firewall. If you have issues with any program, please make sure it is in the new Firewall.

Thanks.

Floplot, not sure what you are cautioning about,

What and how do I check on ?  and how do "allow" into the Firewall if it isnt already?

I will be installing NS on a brand new computer with virgin copy of Windows 10 Pro 64x (assume latest version)

Thx

Browser extensions  is a mechanism for developers to add functionality that is not already built into a browser. It is not that Norton wants to use extensions to add protection, but the browser developers are forcing third parties like Norton to use the extension method. The browser developers no longer want toolbars added to their browsers.

And with the multiple layers of protection provided by Norton, the majority of the protections are actually outside of the browser.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Hello

Just open up the Firewall and make sure that what ever browser you are using is listed in the Firewall. I noticed that my IE 11 had to try several times to get into the Firewall.

Since you are getting a new computer, please check for any trial security program that might be installed. If there is one, it will have to be removed using the removal tool from that other security program. Also, please turn off Fast Startup in the Power selections.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.
