Excluding Network Drives from Full System Scans

I have two NAS drives connected as Network drives to my PC. I can't see a way to exclude them from full system scans. They both have 1.5TB of data so you can imagine how long it takes, let alone network congestion.

Any ideas please?

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Yes, but that isn't used in the scheduling. Are you saying there is no way to prevent network drives from being scanned in the automatic task schedule, which includes the "Full System Scan" as the only scanning option? There is no option to scheduled a custom scan as far as I can see.

From step 6 in my link above, did you click on the link Select the scan items  ? That allows you to choose which drives/folders you want to scan.

The links in step 7 and 8 shows how to schedule your custom scan.

Now you can go and stop the default scheduled full system scan. On the main Norton Security screen, click on Security - Scans. Then click on Custom Scan. Beside the Full System Scan, click on the pencil icon to edit the scan. Then choose Do not schedule this scan, then Next. That will stop the default scheduled full system scan that would include your external drives.

Re: Excluding Network Drives from Full System Scans

Hello Tim.

Edited: Peter our posts crossed, apologies. Guru peterweb explains here how to disable Norton from checking network drives. The option is within your Norton dashboard>settings. And as he linked to before creating a "custom scan" is discussed in his previous link. In the below area of your settings select "custom scan", then click GO.

Next screen will give you drives you can select/deselect.

Cheers

Re: Excluding Network Drives from Full System Scans

Ah, thanks Peter. Just one question for clarity: in Task Scheduling, Automatic Tasks, are the performance tasks listed there run independently of the Full System Scan (which is now turned off)? In other words, is that schedule ("automatic background scanning routine") different to the scan schedule? It's a bit ambiguous!

Re: Excluding Network Drives from Full System Scans

Thanks SoulAsylum. That's a better solution. I also noticed there is an option to disable network drive scans in the Full System Scan edit screen as well as the Antivirus scan settings :)

The problem was I usually log in as a non-admin user on my Windows 7 laptop, and there's no option to log in as admin to make those kind of changes. It would be nice to have that rather than just greyed out, but that's another topic!

Thanks again.
