Export data in the new Identity Safe Chrome extension

Unfortunately I am on my way out of Norton Identity Safe.

I would like to export the Identity Safe data from Chrome into a file so that I can audit/review the logon before migrating to another password manager.

PS I no longer have Norton on my system so I can't access the Identity Safe on Internet Explorer. In the worse case I might have to print the page in clear text and destroy it when finished.

Thank you for the replies.

Re: Export data in the new Identity Safe Chrome extension

Hello Chris. The current Chrome extension does not support a local backup on periodic basis nor the ability to export. You should still be able to open your vault as it is in the cloud. You would then have to copy/paste each entry into another document. https://community.norton.com/en/forums/update-norton-identity-safe-changes-chrome

IE DOES create periodic backups if you have used it lately look in your documents directory for Norton backups. You can get a copy of the data from there.

You may want to have a look at this option as well: https://support.google.com/vault/answer/2462365?hl=en

Re: Export data in the new Identity Safe Chrome extension

The backups you would find in your Documents folder will be in a .dat format that is not in a readable format.

If you can, install Norton back on your computer long enough to make a backup of your vault in .csv format. That file can be opened in a spreadsheet program for formatting in the way required for the new password manager to import.

If that is not an option, one thing you can try is what I did to populate my new password manager. You can run the two password managers in tandem. Have the new manager set to save logins automatically. With your Norton ID Safe vault open, navigate to the sites you have passwords for. Let Norton fill the username and password and log into the site. Then the new manager should prompt to save the new login. A little tedious, but still saves a lot of typing.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Export data in the new Identity Safe Chrome extension

Hi Sirs,

Thank you for the detailed reply. The Chrome route I can reveal all the passwords, copy them in one go and process the data in Excel. It's a bit tedious that I have to massage the data before a pattern is revealed, but it's doable. Although I can print them as-is from Google Chrome, but I will lose the ability to sort the data and reveal a pattern.

On the other hand I managed to grab hold of an IE with a current database and exported the data (for sorting and visualising the password column). Save the list offline (USB) and time for password audit and change if any!

Here I have compiled a list of important passwords to audit, and it can get really messy if you share any of those with other purposes. You are welcome to add if I miss any.

Password manager password

Authentication app password

Store all 2FA backup codes offline

Windows password

BitLocker password (for BitLocker USB)

Shares password

Wi Fi password

VPN password

Router/modem/etc admin password

ISP password

Microsoft password

Google password

Apple password

Cloud storage password

Bank password

Government password

Facebook password
