Extremely Displeased - SONAR 'Protection'

I was running a program, and Norton SONAR Protection removed it!

Picture: http://prntscr.com/95vpgl

Note: I am sure this program is not malicious in any way, shape or form!

And might I add that this 'program' was very special - no backups of any kind whatsoever were made, and Norton DESTROYED the last copy!

I will NEVER use a Norton service again!

"SONAR.Cryptlocker!g15 is a heuristic detection" (https://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2015-080720...)

Heuristic is not definite.

Shouldn't the user be able to recover his file from Quarantine ?

Re: Extremely Displeased - SONAR 'Protection'

This file was not moved to quarantine - just deleted. Norton Security did not provide a way to retrieve this file.

Re: Extremely Displeased - SONAR 'Protection'

Where did you get the file from? What kind of file was it?

Your image shows 'hundreds of users', so if it is a clean file you should be able to get it again.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Extremely Displeased - SONAR 'Protection'

It was an executable file, if that is what you are asking.

Those 'hundreds of users' downloaded it around 4 to 5 years ago - the file that Norton deleted is not being hosted anymore.

Then if you can find the file again, you could submit it to Symantec as a false positive, but as you won't be using Norton again............

Unfortunately, there are no if's for this file - it can't be downloaded again as it isn't hosted anymore, and there aren't any peers of mine that downloaded and kept this version of the file.

Have you tried a system restore to before the file was deleted?

Re: Extremely Displeased - SONAR 'Protection'

CCleaner recently deleted all system restore points (except for some ones, which go back way too far), so this is not possible.

Re: Extremely Displeased - SONAR 'Protection'

Do you have a backup you can restore the file from ? A flash drive, or a seperate hard drive ?

Nevertheless. thank you all for your help :)

A bit late now I know, but you should always back up your computer for situations such as this.

Also too late now, but I completely agree with @F4E.  You should always have a backup of you files , and even your whole computer, in case of situations like this, or if you are unlucky enough to have Ransomware infect your computer.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.
