File reputation only for executables?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that file reputation checking is only for executable files. So if I download a ZIP file with an EXE contained within, it doesn't get checked. Or perhaps Norton looks into the ZIP and checks reputation of included executables?

But this is a manual process, right? I'm sure there's a malware check when the EXE hits the file system, but not an automatic reputation check, right?

File Reputation is an attribute factored by e.g., Auto-Protect, Scans, Download Insight, Norton Insight,.....
