Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

After I applied the patch for NIS 2013 and the patch was sucessfully applied the patcher stated "explore" at the bottom instead of "reboot'".  When I clicked "explore" nothing happened.  NIS 21`03 did not seem to be active.  I clicked on NIS in my Windows 7 (64 bit) start menu but it did not launch.  I needed to do a reboot to get NIS to work.  This happened on two computers.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

On additional problem in Firefox 17 after applying the patch - on the Comcast website for signing in for email, the login from NIS shows in a box at the top of the screen but the login no longer autofills the Comcast login box!

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

With the new Norton Toolbar on my other computer which has Firefox 16, the login for Comcast works correctly and the login fields get filled in.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

It would be interesting if symantec explained how it released a faulty patch such as this.  It would seem that his problem would be quite easy to identify and correct before the patch release.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

So did Norton remove this patch? Earlier I had run the Live Update but nothing major was updated (at least concerning Firefox).

Edit: I should mention I have NSS from Comcast so I don't know if that makes a difference.

HI JPV555,

I do not know if the patch has been pulled or not.  However, on themain page of NSS, you can click on Tasks > Check Security History > Clcick on the down arrow behind Recent History, scroll down and click on LiveUpdate. Within one of the LiveUpdates you have run today you will see the following entry after clicking on More Detais and then the + within Total Updates Applied.

Norton Toolbar Add-on for Firefox

It'll look like this: If you can not find it then it has not be updated yet.

Pplease let us know what you find.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

Same problem with NIS 2012. However I installed FF17 in its own folder so it does not replace the older version. The new toolbar works in FF16. The quick fix is to download FF 16.0.2 and do a custom install to a new folder using the same profile and this will get you back until a new toolbar update.

Thanks. Yeah I checked and it was not downloaded.

I went ahead and went back to 16.0.2 until somebody confirms a fixed has been done (I'm monitoring the Comcast forum).

Hi JPV555,

Normally the word is available here prior to it being on the Comcast Forum, but Norton has really been good about getting the info to Comcast users as well here of late.

This is a known issue. Have a look here.

The good news. At last the update is available for x64 PCs without having to wait several days. The bad news. They screwed it up.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

I'm having the same, or a similar, problem. Every site that used to be automatically filled in now instead shows a dropdown box that allows me to manually copy the id and password into the correct fields. This is a pain after being used to the autofilling. Also, sometimes, clicking on "Login Assistant" drops down a box asking me to "Create New Card".

Have folllowed the instructions and have the specified tool bar but, nothing fills in and while login assistant does provide the login information, I have to fill in myelf.  This is only on firefox, IE appears to work fine.  What an idiotic thing to happen especially on a national holiday.  Comone Symantec, you can do better than this.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

There won't be anyone there even aware of this, let alone working on it until next week now.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

I would really like to read a detailed explanation from Symantec as to why they released what appears to be an untested and faulty software update!!!    Symantec you can and should do better!

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

I don't know why since nothing appears to have changed but (for now) my login assistant for Firefox 17 is now working on my desktop computer.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

I tried Live Update and it said there were no updates. My addon is still the original version, and it still doesn't work. How long does it take for the patch to become really available? The Norton update center, (autocheckpkg) says I have the latest version.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

I just checked on my laptop at their was another patch from Symantec.  With this patch the login assistant now works!!!  Also the explore button on the patcvh now works bringing me back to NIS 2013 so no reboot was necessary.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

Live update didn't say I needed top reboot, I did and it works now

I have gotten to the point if something doesn't update as I think it should, then I just go ahead and reboot the  rebootless update!

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

Hi Currahee1942,

Please run LiveUpdate (rebooting when requested) until it reposnds with the specific words "no updates found".  If it requests a Patch be Applied - Applyit now and letr it run.  Once completed - it may still require a reboot.  The version number will not change, but there will be an entry in Live Update for Norton Toolbar Add-on for Firefox.

Keep us posted!

With the latest patch security vault seems to work on all web sites EXCEPT AT&T.  It still want me to copy and past the password.  I have tried about a dozen other sites and they work fine.

Hi Larrykoch welcome to the Norton community. I had the same problem with at&t login so I changed the login URL to https://www.att.com/    It works a little different than using the old URL that is was using   https://www.att.com/olam/loginAction.olamexecute?fromdlom=true   witch did not login for me hope this helps if not click on id safe>report issue and fill in the info to report the probem   ALF60

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

Hi Larrykoch,

I just checked my AT &T, I am using an http: address but it redirects me to an https address and immediately logs me in.

I have not changed anything since prior to upgrading to 2012, so it's the samein 2013 as it was in 2012.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

Thanks.  Changing it like you suggested worked fine.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

Tried reloading multiple times and rebooting multiple times like the instructions suggested.....still get the message from Firefox that the toolbar version is not compatible.......For now I have deleted Firefox and will try again, maybe, another day.....

I dislike IE and Chrome is not great....but Firefox not working with Norton makes me more unhappy.  I wish this wasn't taking so much effort just to get back to how it was. Maybe just look for new software all the way around.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

Have checked all updates and that all version numbers are correct. Still not working, I just get a few words and no icons in the tool bar.  IE works fine but firefox will not work with Norton Toolbar at all. Have rebooted computer, reinstalled Firefox.  Will have to give up on firefox until a full soulution is found.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

Hi AdmiralMike,

This is a situation I have come across before in NIS, N360 and NSS with previous FF upgrades. Following the exact procedure that follows has produced the desired results of the NTB appearing in FF. Do not add any addtional steps such as running the Norton Removal Tool, as that may cause you to lose your ID Safe, customised settings and will also remove any other Norton programs you may happen to have installed.

It is highly recommended you export your ID Safe data prior to starting this procedure.  You should notlose it during the procedure - but please export it as a precautionary measure.

Please do the following in the order I list:

Totally uninstall Firefox

Download a fresh copy of Firefox 17.0. from here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/

Install the fresh copy of firefox.

Download a fresh copy of your Norton product from here:

NIS - www.norton.com/nis20

NAV - www.norton.com/nav20

N360 Standard - www.norton.com/n360s_20

N360 Premier - www.norton.com/n360p_20

Remove Norton  your Norton product using Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs if you are using XP) - do not run the NRT as you'll want to keep your Identitiy Safe and other settings.

Install the fresh copy of your Norton product. Run LiveUpdate (rebooting as requested by LiveUpdate) as many times as necessary for it to respond with the specific words  "no updates found" .

Once all that is done in the order I am asking for you to do it, please check Firefox 17.0 and let us know the version number and also look at "Add-on's" and see if Norton Toolbar 2013.2.2.3 and Norton Vulnerability Protection 11.1.1.5-3 are listed and shown as enabled.

Do you now have the Norton Toolbar in FF 17.0.?

Please let us know how this goes.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

hi.

That seems to have worked.  Download from www.norton.com/nis20 wouldn't work so used Norton Downloader instead.

Had to restart Windows a couple of times, after Norton had completed just one liveupdate.

Bit time consuming just to get Firefox/Norton working.

Hi Admiral Mike,

I hope your reply that all is working is in regards to my last post.  I have tried to use the NIS 20 download link I provided and it worked for me.  No matter - you got it all sorted out and hopefully it all stays that way.

Re: Firefox 17 support - Norton Toolbar

Just loaded Norton 360 Premier, got my passwords into the vault and it STILL constantly hangs with all of the updates and patches for both Firefox v 17.0.1 and Live Updates for Norton, running 20.2.0.19 that said it was supposed to fix this...Now I have 2 computers that are hanging.  Any additional steps that I need to do?  Thanks, in advance.
