Firefox 20 & Norton Toolbar

I have been unsucessful in updating to Norton Toolbar: 2013.3.4.3 in conjunction with my recent upgrade to Firefox 20.  For the past several days I have repeatedly run L.U. and rebooted to no avail.  I have uninstalled and then reinstalled Firefox 20.  Seems I am stuck with Norton Toolbar 2013.3.1.3 which works with Firefox 19.02 but is disabled by Firefox 20.   I have read the Firefox 20 & Google Chrome 26 Support for Norton Toolbar tread.  Is there any other workaround?

Thanks.

Re: Firefox 20 & Norton Toolbar

Hi donnmacc,

Can you please check whether you have enabled the Norton Toolbar in Firefox 20.

You can enable it by opening the Firefox browser and clicking on Tools > Add-ons.

Under the extensions tab, you will find the Enable option for Norton Toolbar: 2013.3.4.3.

Re: Firefox 20 & Norton Toolbar

Hi donnmacc,

This is a situation I have come across before in NIS, N360 and NSS with previous FF upgrades. Following the exact procedure that follows has produced the desired results of the NTB appearing in FF. Do not add any addtional steps such as running the Norton Removal Tool, as that may cause you to lose your ID Safe, customised settings and will also remove any other Norton programs you may happen to have installed.

It is highly recommended you export your ID Safe data prior to starting this procedure.  You should not lose it during the procedure - but please export it as a precautionary measure.

Please do the following in the order I list:

Totally uninstall Firefox

Download a fresh copy of Firefox 20.0. from here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/

Install the fresh copy of firefox.

Download a fresh copy of your Norton product from here:

NIS - www.norton.com/nis20

NAV - www.norton.com/nav20

N360 Standard - www.norton.com/n360s_20

N360 Premier - www.norton.com/n360p_20

Remove   your Norton product using Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs if you are using XP) - do not run the NRT as you'll want to keep your Identitiy Safe and other settings.

Install the fresh copy of your Norton product. Run LiveUpdate (rebooting as requested by LiveUpdate) as many times as necessary for it to respond with the specific words  "no updates found" .

Once all that is done in the order I am asking for you to do it, please check Firefox 20.0 and look at "Add-on's" and see if Norton Toolbar 2013.3.4.3 and Norton Vulnerability Protection 11.3.0.9-4 are listed and shown as enabled.  Also double check that there is a check mark in front of Norton Toolbar when giong to View > Toolbars on the FF  Menu Bar

Do you now have the Norton Toolbar in FF 20.0.?

Please let us know how this goes.

Re: Firefox 20 & Norton Toolbar

Thanks for the responses.

Alan JS:  Norton Toolbar: 2013.3.4.3.  has not appeared in the Addons despite repeated attempts via L.U.  Norton Toolbar 2013.3.1.3 is there but it is greyed out and it contains the message that it is not compatible with FF 20.

Yank:  I will follow your recommended procedure.  I am using the version of NIS provided by Comcast.  Should I use the link you specified for a new copy of NIS (www.norton.com/nis20) or get another copy from Comcast?  I don't know if the Comcast Version is Comcast Specific.  i am running Win 7 if that matters.

Thanks again.

Re: Firefox 20 & Norton Toolbar

Hi donnmaac,

I was all ready to give you a download source for Norton Security Suite provided by Comcast - but then you said NIS and you got me thinking.  Are you by chance a Comcast Business Class customer and are actually running the Norton Internet Security Online version?  If so, theyhave been doing some stange things with that product including it coming from somewhere out side of Comcast - hopefully the following link can assisst you:  http://forums.businesshelp.comcast.com/t5/Security-Norton-Internet/bd-p/Security

Now all that said, if in fact yo are using the Norton ecurity Suite as  a residential customer, please use the following download for the Comcast version installation in lieu of the link I provided.

http://www.norton.com/nss

Please keep us posted.

Re: Firefox 20 & Norton Toolbar

Yank:

I followed your instructions as listed above.  I totally uninstalled FF 20.  I then downloaded and installed a fresh copy which in currently FF 20.0.1.  I then uninstalled Norton but left Identity Safe and the settings.  I downloaded a fresh copy of NSS for Comcast (you were right and i was wrong).  I installed NSS and repeatedly ran L.U. until there were no more updates.  During the LU process 4 "patches" were installed.  Once there were no more updates, I opened FF and found that it still showed  Toolbar 2013.3.1.3 present and disabled.   Norton Vulnerability Protection 11.3.0.9-4 was there.   Toolbar 2013.3.4.3 was not present.  I rebooted the computer and tried LU again but there are no changes.

The toolbar is present and working fine in both Chrome 26 and IE 10.

Re: Firefox 20 & Norton Toolbar

Hi donnmacc,

So are you happy with using IE 10 and Chrome 26 or do you desire to continue to use FF?  If you go back to FF 19.0.2, the Norton Toolbar currently available with NSS 20.2.0.19 will work just fine until such time as NSS is updated to support FF 20.  You can download FF 19.0.2 from the middle of the following URL:

http://www.oldapps.com/firefox.php?old_firefox=11949

Re: Firefox 20 & Norton Toolbar

I guess the FF20 update is not going to work for me at this point.  I will return to using FF 19.02 for now.  Thanks for your time and advice.

Re: Firefox 20 & Norton Toolbar

OK donnmack, so you are good at this point n time with FF 19.0.2.

Please keep an eye on this N 360 Board for the announcement for FF 20 on Comcast NSS and/ or the Comcast Boards.

You are most welcome for the asssit.

Re: Firefox 20 & Norton Toolbar

Thanks, yank, for this advice. I am having the same problem: same OS, same Comcast NSS, same versions. I blame Comcast for this unspeakable delay. It just proves again that tanstaafl. Something 'free' is worth what you pay for it.

I am back on Firefox 19 and will just wait.
