Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

I have passed a couple of hours with agent of norton chatting this morning.

and finally the agent told me to come here to find answer. Norton advertises that Norton Identity safe NIS is fully compatible with Firefox 36 for the toolbar.

But I can't seem to find the toolbar anywhere. If I go to Firefox Extension and do a search NIS never shows up.

Any Suggestions.

Hi Capbat,

Please see if the following announcement helps:

https://community.norton.com/en/blogs/product-update-announcements/firefox-36-support-norton-toolbar

So we can better assist you - are you using the Stand Alone Identity safe or using it as part of Norton Internet Security?

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

Thanks Yank.

That was exactly what I was saying. Your link announces the Firefox 36 for the Toolbar. BUT it is nowhere to be found.

If I go into the latest Firefox browser and select Tools and AddOns and do a search for something that would look like Norton Identity Safe or Norton, or Identity Safe, or Safe, the results are always the same, No match that would lead me to the add on applicable to Firefox 36. None. Whatsoever.

My questioning is, Where Is It?

And to answer your question, Yes I am using a Stand Alone of Identity Safe. But I am sure that this does not make any change in our mutual intention of resolving this situation. And I do not have any other Paid For Norton Products.

Thanks for hearing me.

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

In Firefox go to Add-ons > Extensions.  Can you enable Norton Identity Safe?  If not you may need to open Internet explorer > Open Identity Safe > Go to the About tab and check for updates.  You may need to restart your computer.  Go back to Firefox > Add-ons > Extensions and enable the Norton ID Safe from there.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

Hi bat,

The following is from my notes which I believe does the same thing as Krusty13 suggested.

Rest assured that having the Stand Alone and no other Norton products in no way affects us assisting you to a mutually satisfying resolution of your situation.  We just needed to know as the update functions differ slightly between the Stand Alone and the full Norton products.

This is how you have to do live update manually in the standalone product:

1. Launch browser with toolbar

2. Click on the Norton button on the toolbar and select About Identity safe from the list

3.Click on Check for new updates from the window which opens

4.The live update will run and pull you the updates.

Apart from this, Live update runs automatically for every four hours. Here incase if you are already updated to FF 36 and see no toolbar, just open your IE and follow the above steps for the manual live update. On reboot, you should see the Toolbar compatible with FF 36.

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

I have a puzzling but apparently trivial issue with the Norton 360 version of the Identity Safe and Firefox 36.  I have a fully functional Norton toolbar, including Identity Safe, and all seems to be working fine (except that the Vault button stops responding after an hour or so requiring I go the long way around).  What is odd is that when I go to look at the Vault settings, under the General tab it shows everything is OK for Internet Explorer (it is), for Google Chrome (it is) but for Firefox that the extension is disabled.  When I click on the Open extensions link I am taken to the Firefox Add-on management screen where the Norton Toolbar shows up as correctly enabled (2014.7.10.26).  I normally run Live Update immediately after booting before I check email or go browsing but nothing has changed through several Firefox release updates.  I know that Identity Safe works, I signed on here using my vault settings; I just don't know why N360 seems confused...

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

To Yank and Krusty.

I have done that at least 3 times. I have upgraded Norton Identity Safe I have removed and re-installed Firefox.

When I go to Firefox Extensions the Norton Identy Safe is there BUT it is yellowed out, it say's it's (disabled) and there is NO button to Enable it. If there is no button to Enable it I can't do very much. So is there any one out there with an working Firefox extension of NIS could you please tell me how you got it. According to the post above it seem that this guy as a 'partially' working one, but he as Norton 360 which I don't have I don't even know what it is. But it might be that I need a paid for application for the extension to be enabled or disabled at will.

Thanks.

Bat.

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

Hello Bat

This KB should help you. It mentions if you have the stand alone Identity safe, you may have to download the latest version for it. It gives a link to get the latest version. If you do that, make sure you back up your current identity safe so you don't lose your files.

https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v58055475_EndUserProfile_en_us

You mentioned that you have upgraded your identity safe toolbar, but perhaps it needs a clean install of it which is why I mentioned to back up your files. If you don't know how to do that, some one else will come along to tell you how to do that. I am hoping though that this KB will help you.

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

Edited: Notice that in the picture above it says that 'Norton Identity Safe Toolbar is INCOMPATIBLE with Firefox 36.

@Yank

1. Launch browser with toolbar

2. Click on the Norton button on the toolbar and select About Identity safe from the list

3.Click on Check for new updates from the window which opens

4.The live update will run and pull you the updates.

1. Launch browser with toolbar. What browser Firefox? if yes Firefox does NOT have the toolbar. I have it in Internet Explorer (IE)

2. In IE I have gone to About and checked for updates numerous time, last time 5 minutes ago. Sometimes it says that there is an update and do install it. Sometimes there is no update. If the live update runs and pull the updates, I don't know but I get the same result.

LIke I said earlier I have unistalled Firefox Norton Identity Safe several times and re-installed them, so I assume I have the latest version, but still the same problem.

I assume that in the whole world there must be at least one guy that is running the stand alone version of NIS with firefox 36!. Thanks for your time.

@flooplot

I have done what is suggested in your link at least three times to no avail. Always same results.

I understand these updates are recent 24 Feb. So I'll just wait for a while and others might complaint and Norton might fix it. I can't believe that I am the only one having this problem.

Thanks.

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

Hi capbat,

I downloaded and saved the free version of Stand Alone ID Safe yesterday from the link floplot provided.

The Properties Detail Tab states version 2014.7.8.23.   Is that the version you are downloading?  Be sure to get a fresh download and not use one already in your temp folder.

Regardless of which browser (FF or IE) you use to download it, you should still receive the most recent version of the stand Alone ID Safe.  That is why we are saying if one browser doesn't work try the other.

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

Hi!

I had exactly the same problem like u have. The solution is: close Firefox first before you run LiveUpdate in Norton 360.

Open Firefox and enable Norton Toolbar, the button will be there.

Good luck!

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

OK gang, have no clue what is going on with the updated toolbar for FF 36.  Been gone for over a week and just got home and tried to update the toolbar for FF36 so I can update to FF 36 and have run live update over 10 times and no patch for the updated toolbar????  Know it is deployed slowly but, a week later and no update sounds like somesort of glitch.  Have tried all the usual methods to get the patch and no dice.  Still have the 2014 toolbar.

Help appreciated.

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

Hi David,

We have been discussing the Stand Alone Identity Safe in this thread and if memory serves me correctly, you are running N 360 v 21.6.0.32, which does not have a 2015 version NTB browser extension, but Norton Toolbar: 2014.7.10.26 is the one required for your version.

FWIW, I received the browser add-on for FF 36  through LiveUpdate on 23 Feb @2:56 PM CST on my Comcast NSS v 21.6.0.32.  No restart was required (Win 7).

Please verify your NTB extension version.

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

Thanks Yank,

Yes, have the correct toolbar you described.  Very confusing as the announcement, first post in this board states that the new toolbar is  2015.2.0.21 and what I have been looking for.  Seems to read to me like that toobar version is for all versions of Norton.

Okay, found the confusion.  The post states only the 2015 version of the bar so I clicked on the full announcement and found the version you quoted so am good and can now update FF.  Seems to me Mr. Mohan should post all of the updated toolbar versions when he posts in this forum to avoid this confusion and not simply post a link to the announcement.  Makes everyone need to look at 2 posts with the information.  Perhaps simply posting the announcement here would avoid this confusion.

Thanks again Yank and waiting for Tony to come back with a fix for the freezing/crashing issue.

According to the picture above I have a fresher  version 2014.7.9.8 depending on the ways they use to name their version. It does work in IE but I prefer FF and all advertisement says that it is fully compatible with FF 36, witch I don't think so. Norton should know if something is not working.

I am not using Norton 360 and I don't have LiveUpdate.

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

Capbat, the  version I mentioned (that you quoted) is the version of the download for the Stand Alone ID Safe (2014.7.8.23) - not the version of the Norton Toolbar required for FF 36 (version 2014.7.10.26)

It appears you are getting confused between the most current download version for Stand Alone versus the Norton Toolbar version required for FF 36.  By downloading and installing the Stand Alone download version  2014.7.8.23, it should produce a Norton Toolbar version of 2014.7.10.26.  I hope that clears things up.

Now in regards to "I am not using Norton 360 and I don't have LiveUpdate."  In my post above I stated how to run LiveUpdate in the Stand Alone version:
1. Launch browser with toolbar

2. Click on the Norton button on the toolbar and select About Identity safe from the list

3.Click on Check for new updates from the window which opens

4.The live update will run and pull you the updates.

Hopefully you'll have another try at doing the above and things will work out - if not come back with what happened or did not happen.

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

I am using Version 2014.7.8.23 of Norton Identity Safe Stand Alone as shown below. I am pretty sure that is the latest version I have checked numerous time and daily. I have the toolbar for IE but I am looking for the toolbar for FF. How do I get the Toolbar for FF?

Thanks Bat

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

Just to verify, when you removed and reinstalled Norton Identity Safe, did you use a fresh download from Norton or did you use a copy you had stored on your system?  I ask as it is possible a saved copy could have been corrupted.

I'm not a full time FF user, nor can I install the stand Alone on my system as I have full blown Norton products that already have ID safe as part of their GUI.  Is it possible to uninstall your current FF and then attempt to update a fresh install of Stand Alone using IE?  Then install a fresh copy of FF 36 and see if the toolbar is compatible?

I have also heard something about creating a new profile in FF - but as a non-user someone else may have to help here.

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

I use Norton 360. The toolbar in the Add-Ons of Firefox 36.0.1 is 2014.7.10.16 and is not compatible. Apparently the version 2014.7.10.26 is compatible.  I have applied Automatic updates in vain, the previous version does not change! Any help please?

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

Hi Lesub,

I have asked for a mod/admin to move your post to a new thread for greater visibility, especially since you are using N 360 in lieu of the Stand Alone ID safe as discussed in this thread.

Once moved, please indicate the version of N 360 as found in Support >About from the main page of N 360.

Re: Firefox 36 Norton Identity Safe Toolbar.

I did not remove and reinstall 360. I just ran live update 6 times. After the 6th time the tool bar appeared on FF36 and it works fine.
