Firefox crashes when I use the Vault toolbar

I'm getting lots of Firefox crashes since I started using the Norton toolbar and specifically Norton Identity Safe and the vault. When a website has more than one log-in, choosing one of them almost always crashes Firefox. After restarting it, it works fine. Sometimes other actions on the toolbar crash or freeze Firefox.

There's an older thread on the same topic from months ago and it says Norton is working on it, but it still appears to be happening so I'd like to re-open this (and comments on that thread are closed).

I'm using Firefox 30.1 on Windows 8.0.

Re: Firefox crashes when I use the Vault toolbar

Firefox 30.1 is not supported.  Firefox 35 Support for Norton Toolbar
Please note: We now only officially support Firefox 33.0 and above. Firefox 32 and older are no longer supported. See this announcement for more information.

You may also have issues with W8 vs W8.1

Re: Firefox crashes when I use the Vault toolbar

I am using Firefox 35.0.1, the latest version with the latest patch from Norton, and the same thing happens 3 or 4 times a day. The original poster was using an old version of Firefox. This same issue has happened with every update of Firefox for the last year at least. How do I find out if I "have issues with W8 vs W8.1"? Is this a problem with Norton or with Mozilla? It's supremely annoying when the dreaded pause comes and the browser disappears. The site with multiple logins usually works fine after the session is restored.

Thank you.

Re: Firefox crashes when I use the Vault toolbar

Re: Firefox crashes when I use the Vault toolbar copied from Re: Have Proved Norton Toolbar is Causing Firefox to Crash Posted: 13-Feb-2015 | 9:28AM • Permalink I have the same problem on my pc - Windows Vista Ultimate SP2, FireFox 35.0.1, NIS 21.6.0.32, Norton Toolbar 2014.7.10.16. I've raised this a few times, updates of FF and NIS/Vault/Toolbar seem to help or hinder but FF not responding is always a threat if I have the Toolbar extension installed. I probably posted earlier threads, no "cures" were permanent. There are fundamental problems with FF and the toolbar.

Re: Firefox crashes when I use the Vault toolbar

Just my 2¢:

Norton has been made aware of the other post ("Have Proved Norton Toolbar is Causing FF to Crash") and is working with the OP, I think chiming in on that thread (even a copy/paste from here) would add additional  emphasis on getting this thing resolved - or at least heightening Norton's awareness of the extent of this situation.

Re: Firefox crashes when I use the Vault toolbar

Today, I tried switching to Chrome. So far, no crashes. Logging into a site with 2 logins worked perfectly.

Re: Firefox crashes when I use the Vault toolbar

Hi, Ellen. Normally, Symantec issues a patch for the Toolbar a day or so before Mozilla releases the new version.

What I do when a new version of FF comes out is to run Live Update until no more are found, and then download a fresh copy of FF from Mozilla and over install the existing version.

This seems to help the two mesh together, and I rarely if ever, get a crash with Firefox.

F4E - I use the same method and find it helps reduce incidents. But it doesn't eliminate the problem which grows over time. I also think crashes may increase after a heavy log in day.

Re: Firefox crashes when I use the Vault toolbar

Today has been particularly annoying. I've not been using it much, been out a lot, hardly used vault yet FF has crashed it seems once during each limited session. There appears to have been no update to FF or toolbar. So mismatch/need to update each isn't explanation.

Re: Firefox crashes when I use the Vault toolbar

Hi, Rogerror. I'm not saying that the way I do it is a cure all. Just that it works for me.

We're dealing with open source software here, with all the potential for issues.

The Mozilla forums as well as this one, are full of people having problems with FF.

I haven't had Firefox crash for a very long time.

Re: Firefox crashes when I use the Vault toolbar

Hi F4E I've reset Firefox, getting a fresh FF, Addons and Profile. FireFox has been crash free today and I've used the toolbar/login a few times-JOY. I seem to be running the same editions as before; I hadn't created a new/replacement Profile for a while, maybe that has been the big help?.

Yep, a fresh install of FF rather than an over install, quite often works, too.

Ah well, FireFox just crashed, that was 2 days without. Really does seem to be a time/useage thing with the toolbar and FF.

For now try disabling Hardware Acceleration in Firefox. It solved my constant Firefox crashes.

Well SGFC, glad it seems to work for you. I have tried disabling Hardware Acceleration in Firefox and have found it makes no apparent difference to crashes for me.

Hello

Has the new version of the toolbar and firefox make any difference?

Re: Firefox crashes when I use the Vault toolbar

Well new FF36 and new toolbar 2014.7.10.26 ran for 8 hrs with little use, then crashed. No improvement there then.
