Firewall warning....

Unfortunately I lost the message, but I am not waiting for it to show again, so asking about it without all the details in front of me.

What should be done about a firewall message from Norton Security, seeming to show up some times when opening a browser, or going to ANY webpage?

Looking into History, there is a long list with blue dots at the left.  A few of them show, [quote]Activity: Firewall Rules Updated, Status: Detected[/quote]

The few dialog boxes that had appeared showed Firewall... at the top of the Window, and the general appearance looked much like the Insight dialog box, and there was a file named  (I cannot remember the exact file name) lenovo......exe.

The computer is not showing any other signs of problems.  I already tried a full scan with Norton Security but it only took care of a few tracking cookies.

Windows 10 tower-form computer

Lenovo brand, 64bit computer or operating system

Re: Firewall warning....

There it is again:

Firewall Alert

.....The dialog box disappeared again, ON ITS OWN, so I cannot give those details which I wanted.

Re: Firewall warning....

Please go into your history. Look under the firewall section. There you will see everything you need to know. There is firewall network connections and firewall activities. It is possible you are infected with something and it is trying to call home. Hence the firewall alert. Have you performed a full scan? Which browser is this happening with? Edge? Firefox? Chrome?

If you see it again, please take a screenshot and post so we can give better advice.

Did it look something like this image from @Krusty13 from this thread?

I too was getting the same firewall warning for the Windows Store. The answer apparently has to do with the site certificate as explained by employee Murahari     here.

Re: Firewall warning....

Yes, DID do a full system scan as I said, and only Norton found 9 tracking cookies.

Browser in use has been Google Chrome, fully updated, used in Incognito mode.

I did make one mistake:  The product is Norton 360 Premier edition v22.8.0.5.0, and not Norton Security.  Still, no other unhealthy problems seen in the computer's behavior.

Firewall Network & Connections -  I see no listings related to the details shown in the message alert, and all the Severity just show blue dot with "info" next to.  Status's only say, "Detected".

I may have found something in Firewall Activities under History.  This afternoon during a ~20 minute period, there are four listed items "Allowed" statuses, "You allowed Lenovo.Modern.ImController.PluginHost to access your network resources."  (But the actual alert had much other details and information.  I am still looking at an entry in History in Firewall Activities.).

The "details" from that History listing:

---I am looking for how to upload the screen shot or picture snip I made---  may need to edit this later.

Now I need to turn the file image into either txt, or pdf or zip.  I'm looking how to make the conversion or remake this file somehow.......

All I can SAY for now:  No Action Required;  Program Path, C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Lenovo\ImController\PluginHostLenovo\ImController.PluginHost.exe; Action Taken, Allow (but no, nobody took any action but this is what the details of History say); Traffic description, Outbound tcp www-http

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Re: Firewall warning....

And was the original alert you saw similar to what bjm_ and I posted above? If so, as long as you recognise the software, you just have to choose Allow Always.

Re: Firewall warning....

Here is one of them, attempting to post image as PNG (which I'm told the forum should accept):

Now if this happens again, I need to learn how to tell Norton to allow this file.  The rest of the filename is shown in the/a previous post in this same topic.  (a little complicated to post the image.  Upload, Choose File, Insert, but the image worked, after converting to PNG).

Now if this happens again, I need to learn how to tell Norton to allow this file.

see Options > [Allow always] click drop down arrow for Options other than [Always allow] > then OK.

and see Applying default option in: 28.....meaning [Allow always] in 28 seconds.

You may Stop Timer, allow default or choose other option.
You may Allow once, Block once, Block always, etc & see More Details.

Your action populates to Firewall > Program Control.

Re: Firewall warning....

Obviously you are using a Lenovo pc. Just Google it and you can find the answer. It is not a Norton issue but part of your Lenovo computer. If you click ok then you should never see that message again. I have seen this for my pc but other programs. I click ok then never see it again.
