First Bugs

Hi,

Just using a trial version of NS version 22.0.0.110, I thought that it was a Beta??version but NO.

1). When 30 days report is set to OFF it still appears on the top of the NS GUI.

2). The Network Settings in Firewall are somehow misleading, I used the Protected setting in NIS 14, now in order to have similar protection, I must set it to Public.

The Private setting seems to be the equivalent to the old Shared setting.

3). When closing FF 32 on an XP system, it throws a FF error: "The reference at ....memory... could not be read"

Please fix...

As for the other bugs I found so far,  correct me if I'm wrong..

Regards,

Re: First Bugs

Hi Apostolos,

Well that's a good start isn't it! Not surprised you found a couple or three, always expected with new products unfortunately.

Do keep us posted with your observations, thanks.

Re: First Bugs

Old bugs are still there, I guess Norton decided the last Beta 110 was good enough.

1) Performance Graph Usage was there on first install but has now went blank again.

2) Login spacing in IDSafe is still too tall for field

What else was not fixed?

I definitely won't upgrade until the next update. Seems to be the normal rushed release we have seen for the last two years.

Re: First Bugs

The bug list continues...

4) Even if Windows Temporary files CleanUp setting is DISABLED, (NS Settings), when you click on the GUI icon for cleanup it runs and deletes files.

It would be better when this setting is disabled, and a poor user like me clicks on the icon, to have a mesaage that cleanup is disabled and cannot run, otherwise what's the purpose of the disable button??

So far, I haven't found anything else, BUT I do not use the Vault or the Toolbar so if others notice issues, feel free to report..

Cheers,

It could be that that setting is for the automatic scans. If you click on the feature, you are over riding that setting.

I have not yet upgraded, so this is just a guess.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: First Bugs

Hi Peter,

I agree that it might be this but I think that this setting is not to be overwritten, a message warning would be nice.

The bug list continues...

5) Norton Insight manual scan & Norton Insight idle background task CANNOT complete.

The manual Insight scan throws a message that " Insight encountered an unknown error".

As for the idle Insight background task it takes forever and cannot complete, even when I force the task manually, it cannot complete either.

Now what??

Actually, there is a bit more to it than just that...

In testing poster "elsewhere" discovered that the "System Level" component of NS does the actual cleaning, not the localized "User Level" NS component.  This may not sound serious at first, but "elsewhere" also discovered that the "cleaning" action operates on all Windows accounts on the system, meaning that it removes these file elements from all accounts on the computer - even Admin-Level accounts - and even if invoked by a low-level user account.  In other words - a standard Windows user logs on the local system - then invokes the cleaning action - and it clears these files from all user accounts, even the primary System Administrator account.

I'd point you to the thread linkage in the NS Beta Forum, but there's really no point as it's been locked out from viewing.

Kind regards,

John

Re: First Bugs

PhoneMan,

I ran into the same thing upon first installation, do not waste your time, for me  an uninstall/reinstall did the job.

Also MAJOR issue affecting XP & FF 32.02.

When I hover the mouse cursor over the Norton Safe Web icons, the FF border window becomes like de-activated, if you click on it, it activates again, BUT when you close FF it throws a message "The reference... at...memory...could not be read. Click ok to terminate the program".

It's something with the FF app container.

I uninstalled NS 3 times, same for FF 32, EXACT same behavior.

Can you reproduce it and report back??

Thanks...

Re: First Bugs

Don't have XP anymore. Just W7 and W8.1

On my W7 system I have NS and FF 32.0.2 and when I hover over the Icons it displays the small window with information on that site. No problem with FF.
