First Norton Product That's Not Worthy of the Norton Name

Peter Norton, wherever he is now, is likely to be ashamed his name is associated with Norton Online Backup.  Can anyone really ever get their 100GB of data back off the Symantec NOBU server?  It has taken weeks, really, WEEKS to get 10% of my backed up files restored from NOBU. 

Restore failed (W403), Restore failed (W404), what the heck?  Online help gives no insight into these error messages.

Every night I set up another attempted "Restore".  Every morning the restore has failed with no coherent reason or suggested corrective action.

Customer Support extended my subscription for 30 days so maybe I'll have time to get all my data restored in the next 6 months. WIN7 DVD backups are looking better every day.

It's issues such as this is why the product is undergoing several modifications to improve the service. The first part of it has already been released earlier this week. Those changes modify the look and usability of it. The next couple of rounds will be improvements to restore, the client and back end enhancements. Those changes should be getting rolled out over the coming weeks.

As for your specific issue - the 403/404 issue is something I am actively working with our teams to get rectified. The problem is getting live cases still experiencing the issue. If this is still active send me a private message with all of your contact details, including email, and a link to this forum post. From there I'll have a member of my team reach out to you to walk through the issue and help you restore.

If anyone else is experiencing the same error please take the same steps as above.

Does your technical team have any recommended best practices we can follow to avoid errors during restore?

For example:

      * Maximum number of files (or folders) to restore at once?

      * Best/worst time of day to perform restore?

      * Recommended browser to access NOBU with?

      * Recommended java version?

      * Reboot PC or router?

      * Disable antivirus/firewall for diagnostic purposes?

Hello Mr. Welty,

I'm not sure what contact details or email you need.  I have an active "private message" email through the Norton community using my forum handle.  Your team can reach me there.  Might it be beneficial to correspond here in the public forum to assist others experiencing similar error codes?

I'd like to avoid another chat session with a Bangalore agent showing me what buttons to click.  Previous sessions were long, not fruitful, and initiated a bothersome series of cell phone followup calls requesting additional access to my system.

Is there anyone on your staff that can provide forum participants with recommended best practices?

I have been going through this same issue for over two weeks (among other mysteries).  I have a log that looks practically identical to yours - W403 and W404 errors everywhere with a few occasional successful restores.  I have sent in my logs to some people wwelty put in touch with me.  We will see what they find.  I am not terribly opimistic.  You can see my thread under "where are my computers" just a few below this one.
