Full System Scan & Clearing Browser History,Etc.

I do a full system scan once a week and wondered if it is helpful and/or necessary to clear my browser history before each full system scan.  I have always done that with my old discarded computer that had IE9. I now have a new (one month old) computer with Windows 10 IE11 and Edge. Is the scan faster when history is deleted? How often should I do a Disk cleanup and should that be done before each full system scan? I have also been doing Norton Performance : Files and Disk Optimization as well as Norton Insight Scan once a week before each full system scan.

Hi, Holly. It's probably worth deleting your temporary files before you do a scan.

I only use Disk Clean Up occasionally. For daily use, I use CCleaner, which is a good safe program.

Use the default settings until you get used to it if you haven't used it before, and do NOT use the registry cleaner option.

https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download  I use the free version, and it works well.

If you do the Insight Scan and use the drop down menu to scan All Files, subsequent full scans will be quicker, as Norton then scans only new and changed files.

Hi, Holly.

You can configure I.E. to just delete your browsing history on exit.

Open Internet Explorer. Click the gear button at the upper right corner of the screen. Select Internet Options > General, and check the box next to "Delete browsing history on exit". Then click Apply.

The same option for Edge does not seem to be available, unfortunately.

Hi, F 4 E.

That tenforums page shows you how to manually delete browsing history and other types of stored data. But it doesn't show you how to configure Edge to delete browsing history automatically on exit, because such an option doesn't seem to exist at present.

I have no idea what WIN10 build most of us have, but starting with Insider Preview Build 14271, the option to set Edge to delete browsing history on exit does exist.  See here.

Have you tried the Turn_On_Microsoft_Edge_ClearBrowsingHistoryOnExit.reg reg file?

Nope. What sort of file is that?

And where can I get it?

Actually I don't have the option to clear browsing history on exit.  I wonder why as I just got my new computer with Windows 10 and IE11 and Edge on April1.  If I would want to delete browsing history on exit, would that make the loading of those websites take longer next time I would go to any of those deleted websites?

Hello Holly

You would have to type out the whole link instead of it giving you choices in a dropdown and then just clicking on the site in the list.

Thanks.
