Full system scan gets stuck and doesn't proceed. Happened more than once with different files

Two days ago I did my first time full system scan and after 10million items, it got stuck on a 6GB zip file. When I stopped it, it got stuck again and I had to reboot. note: it said 'Pausing' when I tried to stop. Should it say 'stopping'? During the reboot, it had to do a disk repair!

Yesterday I started a full scan again and again, it got stuck. On a 2k file! I couldn't reboot it so I did a hard reset. Again, it initiated a disk repair!

Why on earth when I restart the computer, Windows 10 does a disk repair? This makes me uncomfortable as one day I feel Windows will get corrupted and won't reboot properly. Norton is supposed spending most of its time reading files. So I don't understand why the disk corruption is happening.

And why it's having difficult time scanning a 2k file? and pegging the cpu? and causing corruption? and my monitors do not sleep and probably because of it.

I am having a bad experience with it and feel I do not want to do anymore full system scans. I deleted the 2k file and I am going to do one more full scan and see how it goes.

Hi,Abdu. Try disabling the Compressed File scan in the Full Scan settings.

Norton can sometimes get hung up on that, and it's other protection functions will kick in if needed.

That should help speed up the full scan.

Also under Norton Insight scan, after the running processes scan, use the drop down tab,and run an All Files scan.

From then on, Norton will only scan new/changed files.

I forgot to mention I disabled the compressed files scan option after the zip hang.

Where is the Norton Insight scan option?

@Abdu:

You may try following the below steps:

1. Check if Fast Startup is still enabled. If so, turn off that setting in your Windows 10.

2. Ensure there's no pending update(s) and, both your 10 & Norton are up-to-date. If you're also using any other 3rd-party security program, uninstall that app thoroughly (Note: you can reinstall that item later). A system reboot is kindly recommended.

3. Exclude all of your personal stuff this way: move all of your personal stuff like music, vids and alike to one folder, then exclude that folder. Similarly, exclude those well-known apps/applications. For related info, you may review this page and this one.

More, you had better scan your system in Windows Safe Mode this way: update your Norton first > clean all of temporary files, including browsers' caches, system files - to do so, you can  make the best of CCleaner and/or Windows' Disk Cleanup utility.

Check if your issue continues.

4. Run Norton Remove and Reinstall tool to see if your issue persists.

For more info, you may Chat with Norton Support.

Please post back if this or any other comment solves your problem. THX...

Where is the Norton Insight scan option?

From the main page  of your Norton Product, select the Security Box  > Scans > Norton Insight > Go
