Geting rid of backup pop up

For the last few days my Norton with backup has started having a pop up telling me I am not using my back up. I know this and do not what to use it as I have a better system in use. I find it near impossable to get rid of it, task manager doesn't work and I have to reboot top close it.  Along with many I am fed up with the firefox/vault mess and though I have over 170 days left am on the point of getting rid of Norton.

How do I stop the pop up short of total removeal?

The only thing I have noticed is after TaskManager does nothing and a reboot reliabitlity history  has

The program nsbu.exe version 13.0.2.6 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Re: Geting rid of backup pop up

From the Product Manual (*) - page 348:

Turning off or turning on backup setting options
3 In the Backup Settings window, do one of the
   following:
+ To turn off backup, move the On/Off switch to
the right to the Off position.
+ To turn on backup, move the On/Off switch to
the left to the On position.

4 In the Settings window, click Apply.

To turn off or turn on backup from the Backup Details
window

1 In the Norton product main window, click Backup,
   and then click View Details.
2 In the Backup Details window, under Things You
Can Do, do one of the following:
+To turn off backup, click Turn Off Backup.
+To turn on backup, click Turn On Backup.

Hope the above helps.

(*) NSwB main UI, click “? Help” (top right) ˃ Help Center | Product Manual.

Re: Geting rid of backup pop up

From Rainbow_2's post above. On the main Norton screen, click on Settings and then uncheck the Backup feature.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Geting rid of backup pop up

Thanks, have always had this unselected, which is why I think the popup is now being sent to pester me. I have the backup version not for the back up, I have a multiple backup system in place in my home and over the internet for photoes so have never needed/used Nortom=n backup. It has just startd doing this, I wish rather than spend there time pestering customers with new pop ups they would be as keen to get the Firfox problem sorted..

Re: Geting rid of backup pop up

Check to see that the check mark from the main settings page transfers to the backup settings. From the main settings page, click on Backup. Then be sure Backup is turned off.

Re: Geting rid of backup pop up

Again thanks, but its been fully off (and still is off) since originally installed when the new program was released.

The problem looks to be some marketing person  at Norton has thought it a good thing to pester customers with popups including that you haven't used backup rather than get all the program working.

Next time you see the pop up, can you get and post a screenshot?

Re: Geting rid of backup pop up

Something else that might work. Settings sometimes get muddled. Try turning the backup on, and apply. Restart your computer and turn backup off again. This might clear whatever is still bringing up the pop up.

Re: Geting rid of backup pop up

I will give it ago, but he popup was informing me the backup wasn't running. I take it a helpful popup that Norton is now program to pester customers with.

FYI, I also have backup turned off since I first installed NSwB on my machine (in place of NIS) and have never had any pop up telling me I wasn't running it.

Unfortunately  the link you posted above:

doesn't work for me. It gives "Page not found".

Try

it worked for me copying from firefox to IE

Re: Geting rid of backup pop up

I don't have 360 or a version of Norton with backup so I can't tell you where the setting is.

But there is another setting that needs to be turned off to stop the popups.  I think it's under "administrative settings" and it is where you turn off the warnings and program monitoring.

Maybe someone more familiar with the product can look for it.

Re: Geting rid of backup pop up

Your link still does not work. Besides, if it is not the exact pop up it is not much use in diagnosing your specific problem. We will wait until you can get your own screenshot to post.

The setting DaveH is referring to may be this one. It is under Settings - Administrative Settings. Scroll down to see this.

Re: Geting rid of backup pop up

These two settings have to be turned  off:

Settings > Task Scheduling > Disk Optimization in Automatic Tasks has to be disabled.

Settings >  Administrative settings > Idle Time Optimizer has to be disabled
