On-going issues with Chrome extensions

The past 2-3 weeks, BOTH the Safe Web & Safe Search Enhanced extensions for Chrome have stopped working. To correct the issue, a removal, system reboot, reinstall the extensions is in order. Next time this laptop boots up, and, first use of my default browser ( Opera GX w/Chrome Store extensions ) they BOTH stop working. Daily removal and reinstalling the extensions has become seriously cumbersome. The issue was also present with Windows 10 2004 prior to the October release to 20H2. Screenshot is below.

My alternate browser, Edge Chromium isn't having any issues with its extensions. I do not have FF installed nor Chrome to test those for similar lack of functionality.

Windows 10 Professional x 64 / version 20H2

Norton 360 Deluxe w/VPN version 22.20.5.39

Re: On-going issues with Chrome extensions

Right in the middle of posting the last post I had the following appear. I had clicked on the Norton icon in the system tray. Windows came to a full stop / locked for 3-5 seconds. The Norton tray icon disappeared then reappeared without my pressing ok to terminate in the error dialog. I also looked in the system event viewer for more info on what caused the issue. Screenshots below: ** The faulting module was - UISSSH.dll unloaded

Since event id 1000 is known as a "second chance" event code and wrote to the system event logs, there SHOULD also be a dump log in the Norton product folder since the faulting module didn't correct its issue on its own. Please note, the directory is empty.

Seriously wondering if the first post and its issue is also related to this post and the issue that occurred while posting earlier.

Cheers

Re: On-going issues with Chrome extensions

Hi SoulAsylum,

Sorry for the issue you are facing.

You have both "Norton Safe Web" and "Norton Safe Search Enhanced" extensions which offers similar features across both extensions.

I recommend you to use "Norton Safe Search Enhanced" extension alone and remove Norton Safe Web, since it supports features of Norton Safe Web and Norton Safe Search both combined.

Re: On-going issues with Chrome extensions

I'm using only Norton Safe Search Enhanced on Opera ATM..the event log isn't showing any repeats of the event ID 1000. I will let this roll for a couple more days to make sure UISSSH.dll doesn't fault again.

Re: On-going issues with Chrome extensions

Update: UISSSH.dll and event ID: 1000 have not reappeared in the event logs. Its still sad in a way that one extension is still available for use that causes this conflict. Please remove the safe web extension when safe search enhanced is doing its functions. Customer first don't ya think?

Hmm, does Safe Search Enhanced offer Safe Web Link Guard and Banking Protection?

Re: On-going issues with Chrome extensions

That answer is negative on both. No green checks on search results. Only one additional setting. If one conflicts with the other why have both or have to chose between the two? I removed SSE and am using SW.
