Google Chrome and Identity Safe Settings

I have Comcast Norton Security Suite and in the settings for Identity Safe it shows that it has not been installed on Chrome.  It shows it has been installed on IE and Firefox.  I checked Chrome and in fact it is installed.  When I click on install extension for Chrome, Chrome opens and  a window comes up with check marks showing in fact that it is installed.  This behavior has happened on my laptop for several months and now it is also happening on my desktop.  I am using Windows 10 64 bit on both computers with the latest update to Norton.  Since all browsers are being protected it is more of a cosmetic issue, but still annoying.

As I stated "I checked Chrome and in fact it is installed." I get the ID safe toolbar in Chrome and it functions correctly.  The only problem is the incorrect message in ID safe settings stating it is not installed in Chrome.

Okay, I hear ya'.  Yes, cosmetic issues are annoying.  What have you tried ....

Re: Google Chrome and Identity Safe Settings

On my laptop, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Norton Chrome extensions.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Comcast Norton Security Suite (with deleting all saved settings).   Also occasionally I get a message (only only laptop) that I I am missing benefits by not signing onto the online Norton.  When I click on that to do so after a few seconds the notification disappears with nothing else happening.   It appears Norton has left some residual code in the Comcast Norton Security Suite.

> all I do and not saying, will work for you,...is satisfy Norton by enabling Norton browser extensions, then cycle browser a few times to confirm extensions, then disable/set extensions to my preference.
Note: upon product update, Norton may nag you again re Norton features.

I tried what you recommended about a month ago and it did not work.

Okay, I'll try to ping Comcast Norton Security Suite + Identity Safe user.

The ubiquitous reply for W10 is > run LiveUpdate several times until no updates found > re-start not under the influence of Fast Startup > repeat.

How to post an image in the forums.

Re: Google Chrome and Identity Safe Settings

Needless to say I tried that and I do not use Fast Startup.

Re: Google Chrome and Identity Safe Settings

Did you try clicking in Install extension in your image? Maybe that will satisfy Norton.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Google Chrome and Identity Safe Settings

Yes I did, I even uninstalled the Chrome Norton extensions then I clicked on the install extension.  After I confirmed it was working properly in Chrome, I rebooted the computer and it still stated that the extension was not installed.

Re: Google Chrome and Identity Safe Settings

Hello Paul.

Perhaps it's an issue with NSS. Comcast is usually lagging behind the updates. There is probably a little difference in the coding since it is a different product  than the rest of the Norton products. The new updates are probably all the same and not taking into account that NSS is a little different product.

Thanks.

Floplot, I believe you are correct.  Could you bring these problems to the attention of the programmers of the Comcast Norton Security Suite?

Thanks,

Re: Google Chrome and Identity Safe Settings

I installed Chrome version 54.0.2840.99 m (64 bit) on my Windows 7 system running Norton Security Suite version 22.8.1.14 and my Identity safe Settings > General Tab looks exactly like bjm_'s .

Granted I am not using Win 10 - but I can not duplicate it in WIN 7 with NSS.

Re: Google Chrome and Identity Safe Settings

Just found this KB:

https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v58055475_EndUserProfile_en_us#v116474888

Check out the Chrome drop down ( and video) - it uses NS and the wording appears different from PaulGo's image of NSS?  specially curious as PaulGo's image show Firefox as Default and the image and Video in the KB shows Chrome as the Default.

I have got to wonder if making Chrome the Default browser will permit it to work and report as  OK?

Re: Google Chrome and Identity Safe Settings

Making Chrome the default did not change anything.   This is what I did, after making Chrome the default browser I checked - no change.  Then I rebooted the computer - no change.  Then I removed all Norton extensions from Chrome and used the prompt in Identity Safe to install all Norton extensions - still no change.  I then rebooted my computer again and checked Identity Safe - again it shows that the Chrome extensions are not installed.  (I did this on my desktop computer).    Windows 10 does not allow you to set IE as the default browser so I even tried Edge as the default but that did not get Identity Safe to recognize that Norton extensions was installed in Chrome.

Re: Google Chrome and Identity Safe Settings

Hello Paul

Are you sure that your Windows 10 is ok? My hubby is on Windows 10 with IE 11 as default browser and so are my 2 sons. I'm still on Win 7 Pro. I just called my sons up and they confirmed it. They have Windows 10 with IE 11 as the default browser.

Edge browser wouldn't help because it isn't supported by Norton and you can't use the ID Safe with Edge.

Thanks.

Paul - Settings > System > Default Apps > Browser

I have IE set as my default browser in Win 10 AV

Re: Google Chrome and Identity Safe Settings

I needed to uninstall and reinstall IE and now I have it as an option.
