"Google Chrome Critical Error!" Red Screen Scam

This seems to be a new virus/hack/scam and from what I hear it's only a problem if you call these clowns.  I've ran a Full Scan, a Power Eraser Scan, and a Malwarebytes Scan ... just to be sure.  I just picked this up from Google Images.  I attempted to save an image of Jerry Nadler (of all things) when the process tried to take me to the source page for the image.  Instead of a jpg or png file, the offending graphic was actually a web page link "Deep-Scope-600-LI[DOT]webp".  Currently, this takes you to a site (accucheappsyserduc.info) that is only 7 days old, per Scam Advisor.  At this point, I consider myself 'clean' unless I hear otherwise.  An screenshot of that pop-up Tab from the page is below ...

Bottom Line:  DO NOT CALL THAT PHONE NUMBER !

Re: "Google Chrome Critical Error!" Red Screen Scam

Hi Art

Not exactly a new scam. These fake support redirects have been around for a long time. You must have just been lucky in that this is the first one you have seen.

These redirects are usually found in malformed ads on a web site you are visiting. Installing an ad blocker extension in your browser can help protect against this kind of scam.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

No sweat Torrey. I also sent files to IC3 just for kicks.

Yup, PW. But from what I saw, it's relatively new for Chrome. I'm guessing the exploit is a bit different for it. This one got me via a Google domain, so being a Google Editor, I let them know ... tons of bogus links on their images site. As far as Ads, Ghostery and AdBlock are what I've always used. With a 11 year-old machine, I keep ol' Betsy pretty darned clean.
