Has IDsafe toolbar changed?

My autofill has stopped working on Chrome.  I log on to the vault through the PC NIS programme ok but all I get now is a useless little vault symbol on every field that used to autofill.  I am asked to open my vault by a browser window (I think the Norton toolbar does this) even though it is already open - this seems to be some other vault online?  When did this change?  Why weren't customers told?  Has the data that used to be on my PC been moved online?

Re: Has IDsafe toolbar changed?

I just tried with my Chrome browser and the Norton Security ID Safe. Like you, I logged into my vault from the Norton Security app. Then went to Chrome browser and navigated to a site in the vault. The login information was auto filled for me.

In the Chrome browser, navigate to a page that should auto fill. Then with the vault open, click on Vault is Open on the Norton Toolbar. Hover your cursor over the site name at the top in the Current Site section. Click on the box to the right that says View Login when you hover over it. Then the login information should be visible. Check that the Auto Fill box is checked. If not, Click on Edit and change the settings. Be sure you click Save after any changes.

Re: Has IDsafe toolbar changed?

Clearly something major has changed.  I now have 2 different IDsafe addins available for Chrome, one from the NIS PC interface and one from the Chrome store.  They work completely differently.  The first (older?) one seems to want a local vault (which I have, open).  It no longer autofills no matter what I do - all checkboxes are correct.   The second prompts me on autofill fields but wants me to log on to a cloud vault and then needs a click on a vault icon to fill each field.  Has taken the best part of a day figuring this out (because Norton didn't bother communicating the changes).  Now, using the new addin and vault, a key website that uses autofill just crashes and another comes up with a key error.

Re: Has IDsafe toolbar changed?

Are these the 2 add ons you refer to? If so, one is the ID Safe and the other is the Norton Toolbar.

Or are you just referring to 2 methods to access the ID Safe vault?  One from the Norton Toolbar, and one from the Norton Security interface. Either method should get you to the same vault. As you have both local and online vaults, the login presented for each access method will default to the last login you used from that method. With the one asking for the Cloud login, there should be a link to log into local vault. If you click that, you can log into your local vault, and next time you use that method to log in, you should be offered the local vault.

Re: Has IDsafe toolbar changed?

No the two addins are two different versions of IDSafe, each added by the different route explained.  I'd upload a screenshot but this won't accept image files.

I seem to have been transferred to a cloud vault without being asked.  I have now found a way to synchronise the vaults but as the cloud version is the only one that works now this seems pointless.

The new vault a) is missing some logins (Xero) and b) does not work on some pages using stored credentials ie it fills when I click but then fails verification and I have to type them in manually (Stripe).  It also crashes a site in Chrome (Umbraco).

Apart from these problems, after hours of disruption, I am more or less back working.

Re: Has IDsafe toolbar changed?

Did you ever install the stand alone version of ID Safe? That only works with an online vault. You can check to see if you have by looking at Windows Control Panel - Programs. If you see Identity Safe listed, you have the Stand Alone version installed alongside your Norton Security product. Not good. It can cause unpredictable conflicts with your ID Safe operation. If you do see ID Safe in control panel, uninstall that.

You could also have been converted if you were not paying close attention when opened your local vault. There are messages every so often asking if you want to convert. If you click the wrong box, you get converted and lose your local vault.

Re: Has IDsafe toolbar changed?

Thanks for the screenshot tip - here is the pic:

I have not installed IDsafe standalone - I have had NIS for years and started using it as part of that.  Only Norton products installed are NIS and wireless security.

Update: Other logins either not in (either) vault or not working include Facebook and Linkedin.  I was going to start a list for this thread but I don't have the time.

Re: Has IDsafe toolbar changed?

There is a thread about issues with the ID Safe version 3.0.0.298.   https://community.norton.com/en/forums/identity-safe-300298-needs-be-fixed

It cannot be good to have 2 versions installed at the same time. For now I would disable the 3.0.0.298 version and see if it helps with your issues.

Re: Has IDsafe toolbar changed?

I now see what you are referring to. I just got the new 3.0.0.298 extension for Chrome. And I did keep the old 1.0.5 version.

So what is happening here is that with the old version 1.0.5, you are able to click on the Vault is Closed on the Norton Toolbar, and will still have access to your local vault that you have been using all along. As have I. The new 3.0.0.298 extension for Chrome fits in with the type of extension that has been used for Firefox and Edge. They only work with an online vault. That is why the contents you see from opening the vaults in the two different manners can be different. They will never sync together. Any changes made to one will have to be manually added to the second.

I will try to test for a day or so to see what other interactions there are.

Re: Has IDsafe toolbar changed?

Hi folks - the Chrome 3.0 extension is a new release that behaves independently of the "classic pair" of Norton Security Toolbar 2017.x and Norton Identity Safe 1.x.

Like peterweb recommends, the 3.0 extension is not meant to be used at the same time as the original extensions.  I would say for now if you are a longtime user of the original extensions, disable the 3.0 extension.

ie If you still want to use your local vault, disable the 3.0 version.
