H.B.’s Security Round-up 5-28-19.

Hello,

A tremendous amount to cover in this one, so, i will get right to it.  CrunchyRoll’s forum sustained (i’m imagining) some sort of significant compromise to allow all of these spam posts.  This was a tremendous undertaking spanning over one-hundred [100] pages of the CR forum.  The majority of posts were in Korean, so it required a degree of translation as well.  What follows is those results: although some of these domains may be “Green” currently in Safe Web, i felt that they should be re-evaluated, as once you translated either the post itself or ascertained the Google description, the domains appear to be illegal fronts for prostitution in the Far East.  Given the scope of this project, undoubtedly, other questionable domains were revealed, and, i have included some of those as well.  Please keep in mind though, the majority of the domains i bring to the surface here are UNTESTED in Safe Web, it is my hope that this can change and Safe Web’s intelligence improved.  Since it was suggested the last time, i have broken this down to a series of numbered screen-captures for organization, also, to not hyperlink malicious domains here.  What follows that, is screen-captures of the results that turned up in the search engine from extrapolating the info from Crunchyroll’s forum so that you can see what i directly saw at the time.

What is with that link for sydney.edu.au?

I love how there are "warnings" for "urbanislandhotel"

I absolutely did not like that one.  Completely no description.  Have to love that "Fatal error" above ;-)

Concluding, it might be determined that some of these do not pose a threat.  However, being that many of these domains were directly cited in lengthy spam posts on the CrunchyRoll forum, i will be leery of them...

Wishing the very best for those serving/ have served this Memorial Day.  I realise that there are those who have served in the Armed Forces who actively contribute on this forum, thank you for your service.

Sincerely,

H.B.

P.S.- Thanks in advance to Flo, if COPS or RDLeo can be made aware of this post.

Not sure what's going on, from my end, sometimes i am seeing all the screenshots, sometimes not.  In any event, the numbered lists work to this end as well.

Hello H B

When Spam appears in this Forum, it is up to the Admins of the Forum to remove the Spam. The Safe Web Team never sees it. The Admins make note of the IP where it comes from and that user of  the Forum gets banned from the Norton Forum. It would be up to the Admins of the CrunchyRoll Forum to remove the Spam and set up the security rules so that the Spammers cannot get into the Forum.

Have a Nice Day and

Thanks.

Flo explains-

Agreed.  At the same time however, seeing this inundation, i wanted to verify that Safe Web was up-to-speed with these domains, unfortunately, what i found, more often than not, was the gray question mark.  Any approx. estimate when the team will be able to review my list?

Regards,

H.B.

Hello H B

I will submit this to Safe Web. No guarantee that they will respond or when they will respond. You can check back every once in a while and see if they have responded.

 Have a Good Night and

Thanks.
