How can backup to a CD?

Backup settings will only let me choose between online backup or the C drive.  I want to backup to the D drive, which is a CD.  This is not offered as a choice.  How can I fix this?

Re: How can backup to a CD?

Hello Katherina My install on this laptop doesn't give me that location choice either. I will try the solution in the below article. Give the solution within this article a try as well. Please don't forget to reboot then check the status of your DVD/CD drive as a backup location in your Norton dashboard. And please let us know your results. I will do same.

Re: How can backup to a CD?

Installed the package from the article link, my DVD drive again doesn't show as a backup location. I think this drive location MAY have been omitted by default in Norton and have asked one of the Guru's to elaborate since we both have the same question. Hope to have something for you definitively soon.

Cheers

That link for the Gear drivers was for a problem that cropped up on some systems with an update or upgrade to the Norton products. This issue happened a long time ago. As you can see the last edit date of that KB was March of 2016. That issue has nothing to do with the backup feature. It had to do with total loss of access to the CD/DVD drive to Windows.

As for the backup not allowing use of optical media, I can only suggest that it is because the Norton backup feature is designed to be set up and allowed to run in the background. That means that any destination drive has to be available at all times so the backup can be updated. Users are not going to leave their backup DVD in the drive at all times.

Norton's backup does not seem to support one time backups. One possible work around if you want to place your backup on a DVD is to set up a backup to you local drive and then copy that to your DVD. Of course you have to be backing up less data than the capacity of a DVD for this to work.

This might be a good suggestion for the Product Suggestions board https://community.norton.com/forums/product-suggestions

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
